And every season ticket holder got at least one (I think two) emails about the gold out before hand. And I think it was mentioned in the paper.
95% of the season ticket holders knew about it. At least. Very lame effort.

Schoolyard

If the students spent less time in the cafeteria and more time at the bradley center maybe we could actually live up to "the best student section in the nation."  I saw more guys with boobs and girls with guts than I care to actually even describe.  They can't jump up and down and cheer, they are too big.  Instead, they need to rely on a 50 year old business man.
My handle is Schoolyard but I do my best work at Finley Dunnes...Joe Kenny in '08

Back in my day the crowd sucked way worse than it has in the last ten years.

That said, no matter how great the students are, the seating placement sucks.  Stick the enthusiastic fans in the corner and you'll get a half ass effort. Alumni will support the hell out of the program, but they won't jump up and down during a game.  Put us in Camryn and it's not a problem, but the Bradley Center?  No idea what the fix is, but the students deserve no blame.

I honestly don't care if people wear gold.  Does that really have an affect on the game?  It's all about noise......

P.S. I wore gold.  I understand the idea behind it......but I'll take noise over color ANY DAY of the week and twice on Sunday!

Well, IMO, the lame effort to wear gold mirrors the lame effort by all the season tix holders and alums to cheer, and make noise. It's a college bball game, it's (supposedly) your beloved Warriors......stand up, make some noise, and make the effort, or give your tickets to somebody who wants to!

The crowd was one of the worst showings for a top 25 opponent in the last decade.  Overall, the crowd has been weak this year.

I think a big part of the problem is the style of play this year.  We just don't have many highlight-reel plays that fire up a crowd.  We don't have a shotblocker.  We are willing to cede dunks to big men that we can't defend.  We have slowed the game down significantly compared to previous years.  And even though we play pretty good defense, we don't create turnovers quite as much.

The average fan just doesn't see a whole lot to get excited about.  We're just a bunch of flashless players that play fairly well.

madtownwarrior

boring ass game today, pitt took mu out of the game, mu played poorly, why blame the crowd?

Shanunu

Sitting in the student section and cheering my ass off when we need a defensive stop, it's disappointing when we don't see even half the enthusiasm coming from anyone else in the stadium. The students can only be so loud, but when the rest of the 19000 seat stadium is yelling for a stop, it usually happens. More than once today, a big play would happen, Dixon would call a time-out and the whole place would remain standing, but as soon as the whistle blew to restart play, everyone would sit down. What the hell is that? If you're not going to stand and cheer for Marquette when we need it, what the hell is the point of buying season tickets.

I just got back from the game ...

The crowd was great.  It was ready to explode but the poor play really hurt.

The gold out was pretty good, 90% gold.

The booing at the end was for the no call on Jimmy.

Stop with the crowd.  Maybe the mods could put together a "full of crap" list for all those that criticize the crowd and publish their real name and email so we can spam them with DePaul updates as punishment.

I saw it with my own eyes, you guys have lost credibilty whining about the crowd.

I was pretty impressed by the crowd. +1 to everyone that said it was the pace of the game and poor shooting took the air out of the arena. The student section can't start the momentum but they tried to be a driving force behind it.  Upper bowl was pretty intense. Lot of the drunks that come to the game. For a Thursday I figured i'd see more of that but I'm not to the student side very often. A lot of talent up there too. Much better than the uggos and fatties in the lower bowl

maybe it was just my angle but it seemed like one side of the crowd was pretty Gold but the other side (the side with the scorers table) was much less gold.

I think an old man like PRN has wood reading this post right now... as he fantasizes "back in his day..."

I am a mod, and I watched the game on TV, no WAY it was even 70% gold - unless we're dealing with the student section exclusively, then we'll hit your 90% number.

It's not crap, watch the copy you recorded, or watch the replay on ESPN360.  The gold out was not evident at all, and the sound was, well expected.  Only there when the team was playing well, otherwise it was like crickets.  Kinda embarrassing we even called it a "gold out".

p.s. - I'm in Colorado which is why I only watched on TV.  I'll be at the next 3 away games though yelling my head off wearing gold if you'd like to join me.

mklenn

worst crowd of the year due to the fact we played our worst game of the year. no big plays by us, deflating plays and timeouts from Pitt. don't blame us students, we have energy at every game. we need more out of the season ticket holders. pretty poor attendance for a top 25 team too, i guess i thought Pitt was a bigger rival.

WxWarrior

I've got to call BS on this one.  I've commented on lame crowds before, but this was not one of them.  In fact, throughout the first half I was thinking -- "now that's what I'm talkin about."  People were up out of their seats cheering and arguing calls.

It was the best crowd all season as it should've been.  I just wish it was more consitent.

flash

I was at the game, I thought the crowd was fine.

DomJamesToTheBasket

Blaming the crowd is lamer than FDR's legs.......too soon?  ;D

How many judgmental posts are from TV viewers?  That isn't an accurate portrayal..... Quit judging from your TV and go to a game.  Judge for yourself.  Again,  the crowd was great.  I'm not going to take a TV viewers standpoint on this.

New Era Warriors

LOL... we scored 51 fricking point tonight and played like crap and you "old timers" start complaining about the crowd!!!! you guys suck. get a grip. the crowd was fine and the students were there in full force. it's just kind of hard to get into the game when we played like crap the whole game and scored 51 TOTAL points. i know i was jumping and getting rowdy in the student section at the appropriate times.

stop complaing about the crowd people. the crowd didn't lose tonight.

DomJamesToTheBasket

Marquette has one of the best crowds in the country.  Look elsewhere for blame....try something with validity.

FYI... title should be in teal... for those in the know...

I thought my original post was so overboard in the sarcasm, I am honestly astonished half the thread agrees with it.

How do you know?  You looked different on TV.

Josey Wales

You've got to be fucking kidding me. The student section was fine, forget the alums, they couldnt get off their ass if Al stepped back onto the court. Im starting to think the al-era alums are getting too old, the non-student part of the stadium didnt do a damn thing. Even last year they were at least involved. Maybe give the students a decent part of the stadium instead of sticking them in that corner. Hell, even Gonzaga another Jesuit school gets the whole side behind the benches and their tickets are completely free for students. Ours pay 85 or so dollars for shitty ass corner and upper deck seats, what do the people who only watch on tv expect? A Duke-like atmosphere every game? Give me a break, and quit this winning about the "but during Al's era we were so loud" BS. I never heard of Al before arriving on campus. And even thought I respect the hell out of him now, you are living in the past to think some 17 year old kid would come cheer his head off because of what Al accomplished 35 years ago. I'll prolly get banned again for this, but i think all should see it.
BEARS STILL SUCK

Hey Vikings, I like what you've done with the basement.

"Lazar Hayward. The L stands for leader, and the W stands for winner, Lazar Hayward is a winner."

Josey Wales

btw i did not say "fracking", or whatever BS word they put

robmufan

This is the second thread in 2 games that said the crowd has been "the worst of the year"...

What in the HELL do people expect?  The Circus? A rock concert?

MerrittsMustache

The crowd wanted to get loud and rowdy, but Pitt owned the game. Maybe some posters aren't familiar with the notion of taking the crowd out of the game. When the home teams shoots 35% from the floor and trails most of the time while the visitors shoot 55% with a ton of dunks/lay-ups, it's tough to really get excited about the happenings on the court.

+1 from experience

I mentioned this briefly one other time, particularly noting that I don't know how you fix it, but I am a big believer in this phenomenon.  Too many people treat the lower bowl and even that front and best section vaguely like a Lakers game.  ::whiny voice:: "Did you see me in the front row? I think I was on TV! I got there really early!" Sigh. Yes everyone saw you and your jeans and your student section shirt from 2 years ago. (sorry, jeans or lackthereof were always a way we sorted out superfans from not)

I didn't get there two hours early, I was busy drinking, watching Syracuse, and generally studying the BE basketball landscape.  "Why would you watch them, its an MU game!" Sigh.
