Probably qualifies as more of a local celebrity, but Brian Hanley of the Score (sports radio) and the Chicago Sun Times is a proud Marquette grad. Always promotes MU on the show and has TC on as a frequent guest.

"A product of Proviso East High School in Maywood, Illinois, Rivers earned the nickname "Doc" from former Marquette coach Rick Majerus, when he wore a "Dr. J" t-shirt to a summer basketball camp. Rivers played for the United States at the 1982 World Championship of Basketball, leading the U.S. to a silver medal and earning tournament MVP honors after averaging a team-best 18.6 points per game During the summer of 2001, he served as an assistant coach for the USA Men's Basketball Team at the Goodwill Games in Brisbane, Australia, that captured the Gold Medal.

Rivers earned a pre-law/political science degree from Marquette in 1985 and was honored by the Pro Basketball Writers with the 1990 J. Walter Kennedy Basketball Citizenship Award."

Why hasn't anyone brought this guy up? He went to Marquette for undergrad and law school and was a United States Senator.

He's on the original posting--right beneath D-Wade.  So is Doc Rivers--to the left of Chris Farley.

An inexcusable oversight:

It's not every alum who is the subject of an academy award/golden globe winning motion picture.

Thought: Is he famous, or is the movie famous?

In my opinion, if you write a book about your life and the book is made into an Oscar winning movie, then you're famous.  Or, perhaps, infamous.

No disrespect to him, but a mid level state bureaucrat isn't exactly "famous."

'00 grad Nathan Baliva is the radio play by play voice of the Peoria Chiefs, the Cubs "A" team.

Soon to be famous perhaps?

How about the Governor of Guam...

OT-- Camacho might be the current governor of Guam, but he cannot hope to live up to the standards set by the governor of Guam when I lived there -- Ricky Bordallo.  Ricky certainly had a sense of style, right up to the very end.

Probably not, but he was a pretty good rebounder for us in the 80's.

as did an Illinois state senator and member of crain's business magazines "top 40 under 40"... MU's Dave Sullivan

I can't find a picture of him, but his IMDb entry can be found here:
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0370907/

He didn't graduate, as he took an extended summer vacation one year. In the movie, they hold up a Marquette t-shirt, while searching his luggage.

Saw he speak at MU in 84, quite the interesting guy.

How about William Gates? He represented the University well and has gone on to serve public from what I have read. I could only find a high school photo and don't know how to edit. Here is a link for an older article.
