I was at that pep rally warthog refers to, it was in early 1978 I believe at South Bend.  I had already graduated but had gotten tickets to the game from someone I knew at the time who worked at ND.  It was clear to me it was a TV driven thing.  Al said he hated to say he thought ND would win, but that was his opinion.  He didn't say he wanted them to win, just that he thought they would ( and I think they did).  I was never mad at him for that, saw it for what it was.

Al was DePaul pep rally my junior year. He started coming around more and more after that. He was at BC twice for the '77 team if memory serves me. Trust me Al knew the less frequent the visit the more they would be talking about it. He was a private guy that loved the spotlight, but only when he wanted it.

I never said Al was around "all the time".  I know he did not want to show up Hank or Majerus.  He came around when invited.  That was maybe once or twice a year when I was at MU.

I'm not sure what happened when.   I know he did a lecture at the Varsity Theater and a couple of pep rallies while I was at MU.  He did reunions at the BC (at least 2).
