Acker's scholarship would be given away as a part of the 2010 class. It is just opened earlier than expected.

Good point.  really nothing to bank.

I'm generally I'm agaisnt taking 1 and done player's.  But if Stephenson gets his legal trouble cleared up and can get by the clearing house would you take him for 1 year.  I would rather take a 1 and done player in the 2009 class because I want the ship for 2010, so Derrick Williams would not really excite me since he is basically the same player's as JM and EW.  Stephenson is more of a 2-3 and is a bigger guard which we do not really have.   The downsides are Team chemistry, the possibility he will not fulfill both semester's acdemically, and the general feeling that you may be becoming Memphis and the old Cincy with taking player's that have had legal trouble in the past? If you read articles on him he does seem to play hard, play D and rebound?  I would say if a SHIP is avaliable and all the above came true I would be 35%-65%. the 35% yes would be on the assumption that Buzz sat down with him and told him he has to finish the 1st and 2nd semester in good standing, Buzz gets a really good grasp of how the legal trouble arouse (and feels comfortable with it) and he gurantee's nothing other than who ever gives us the best chance to win plays.  If Stephenson plays in college next year my guess is we will not know where until mid AUG. I'm not saying that BUZZ has or will look at him BTW, he has never ever mentioned us.  I was Curious what other's think?

Nope.  Against it.  MU needs to stay away from guys like Stephenson.  We don't need to win that badly.

Didn't claim to have the inside scoop, only that a former target who has recently become available again is mentioning MU.

Announcements are usually delayed until academics are in order.

bma- you are far too modest to claim to have the inside scoop.  you talk, we listen.

The way it's looking with Stephenson, no one needs to win that badly.

The one-and-dones don't need to worry about academics in the second semester, and at many schools in the first semester either. Ask Carmelo about the four credits he racked up at Syracuse.

The only way I would take Stephenson is as a practice only player. If he stays clean for that year and does not cause any trouble, then he could be a full part of the team.

Actually we (Buzz) would take Stephenson in a heartbeat and we should always try and scoop up the best talent possible.  A lot of these kids have been coddled since elementary school and they just need to get their head out of their ass. I am confident Buzz can do that, and if he washes out then so be it but you HAVE to take the chance.

Exactly.  No matter where these young men have been in their lives thus far or how good they are at basketball, they are still impressionable young men.  If we get them in the right situation with the right people around them we could help mold them into well rounded and grounded individuals.

Never underestimate the power of taking a troubled youth away from their idiotic peer group and surrounding them with positive influences.

Stephenson is going to Eurpoe.

There are serious questions about his amateur status, and not to mention his pending legal issues...

Your assumption is that the peer group is the problem.  With Lance the peer group isn't the issue, it's his family.  And they'll be with him no matter where he goes.

I love it how so many people are against the one-and-dones....until it comes to their own school possibly getting one. Then? Break out the excuses and reasoning on how 'this kids' different', or 'just give Buzz a shot! He'll fix em."  Just an observation.

Personally, I hope that MU stays away from kids like that. Now, if they get someone who just plays nuts and leaves early (Wade), I have no problems with that. But if you know going in that the kid's taking one semester of school? No. Not for me.

You don't want any part of Stephenson. None. Zero. Major, major issues. He is not the kid to take a chance on.

If Buzz does that, then we know things aren't on the up and up in Milwaukee.

If Lance Stephenson were the last piece of the puzzle in an experienced team, he would be worth a shot.  IMO, having him around next year isn't going to win us a BE title or get us to the final four and actually may stunt both the individual development, as well as the team development, of a young group of guys who we are going to be counting on down the line.

I just don't know what he does for us.  Turns us from an 12th place BE team to a 6th place team?  So what?
