Don't go to Carnevor before a MU game...a restaurant that good should not be rushed.

Well I made the reservation a couple days ago. They only had a five oclock and 9 oclock so I took the five. Should give me more than enough time to eat slowly and make the game by 8. Must be a pretty happenin' place, they require a credit card just in case you cancel within 24 hours of the reservation time, they charge you 50 bucks a person.

Loving wife...and father of my only child.

Ummm.....

...not that there's anything wrong with that.

A good place that I like is Saz's on 55th and State. Maybe not a real fancy place for Valentine's Day (the place is decorated with Packers, Brewers, etc memorabilia, although it does have a sense of upper classness to it), but it has great steak and food. Good place to have a good meal before a MU game, because I think they have a shuttle.

THEGYMBAR

Butch's is top shelf. Plus you can eat there and still hit the game. Best steak for the price in town in my opinion.

Hards Alumni

Butch's looks totally sketchy from the outside.

I have never been in.

THEGYMBAR

Hards_Alumni---Part of the appeal. It is more like a old time supper club. Great place for guys to hang at after we beat Uconn!!!!

What about the 5 o clock club?.....supposed to be the best steak in town

Chili

butch's is a very cool old school place. super club steakhouse. better than most of the new places.
But I like to throw handfuls...

But I like to throw handfuls...

They had an 8oz petite kobe fillet last time i was there. AWESOME! I do like it but personally have moved away from steakhouses and going to other great Milwaukee restaurants - namely Sanford.

Great Food, But I prefer not to sit on my neighbor's lap.  Not a place for a romantic Valentine Meal IMO.

Milwaukee Area Steak Experiences...

Carnivor -  One of the best, one of the most expensive

Mr B's - Very disappointed, average steak, average experience

Jakes -  Pleasantly surprised, very good

Palmer House (Hartland) - hidden gem, very good

Curt's Steakhouse (Delafield) - Disappointing, average

Mason Street Grill (in Pfister) - Excellent food and service

Biggest Surprise - one of the best, most consistent filet's - Saxe's in Delafield/Wales...

To try yet:   Eric's Porterhouse (Waukesha), Eddie Martini's (Friends rav about it)

Others to try?

Chili

Eric's is good.
Eddies is FANTASTIC and might be my favorite.
Milwaukee Chop House is good.
Capital Grill is very good.
Sabor is nice for a lot of food - Brazilian.
Bacchus makes a fantastic flat iron steak.
Butches Old Casino is pretty sweet old school place.
Butches 5 O'Clock was terrible last time I was there.
But I like to throw handfuls...

augoman

Butch's old casino is my favorite (that huge steer steak w/all that butter), Mo's is great, Eddie's also great, - prefer all 3 to Carnevore, and Carnevore is terrific.

Chili

i forgot about mo's. their bone in ribeye is wonderful but i think they have the worst price to enjoyment factor. if i am going to spend that much i am going carnivore.
But I like to throw handfuls...

That has been my experience as well.  Strange, when you consider it's the same owner, but Old Casino is a much better experience.

I also agree that Mo's is too pricey.  Eddie Martini's is tops for total experience.

Butch's looks sketchy because it used to be a strip club. If you notice the place is round to fit the circular stage that used to be in the middle. You'll notice lots of brass and mirrors as well. That said, it is really, really good. Those fried chips they give you are awesome.

What's the name of the steak joint in the 'hood down State Street around 20th or so? Old school place.

Mo's is damn good. One of the best steaks I've ever had, and I'm from Chicago.
