Mo's is damn good. One of the best steaks I've ever had, and I'm from Chicago.

soooo, you're saying someone had to cut it for you?

I have to disagree.  Mo's is average at best.  I've never been to a steak joint that pushes more sauces to hide the mediocre taste of their meat.  5 o'clock club, the most consistently excellent cut of cow in town.

Isn't it entirely possible that someone could have a great steak at a mediocre Steakhouse?

I could say that the Jack Daniels Steak at TGI Fridays is the best steak I have ever had, and it could be a factual statement. Although quite sad.

It was excellent when I was there, then again come to think of it I think it was 3 or 4 years ago so maybe there has been a change in quality. I would stand by it based on my visit there, though.

I haven't been to 5 O'Clock, but I've been to Butch's Old Casino and that was very, very good. I want to go there now, in fact.

Where would people put Flemings on this list?  A chain, but I've had good meals at their locations elsewhere.

Flemings is good but prefer a Ruths Chris if I am on the road. I would take local steakhouse over a chain if given a chance.

I've been disappointed in Flemings' both Milwaukee and Phoenix- quality and value.  Most over-priced average meal I've had.

I agree.  My wife and I went there becasue it is close to our house.  It was good, but not that good and darn expensive.  I will go to a joint downtown before I go back to Fleming's.  Mason Street Grill is great and has a little more interesting menu.

Downtown or, surprising to say, Bluemound Road between Hwy 100 and Brookfield Road.

Downtown areas best are Izumis on Prospect and Nanakusa on Chicago in the Third Ward.  But out in Wauwatosa / Brookfield on Bluemound there's a strip decent Sushi places, from East heading West you've got Takara, Wasabi, Fujiyama, and Umami Moto... all very decent.

Don't forget Sake Tumi's on Milwaukee Ave (Just a few doors away from Carnivore i think)

Kiku's is cute, but just ok.  I felt like I needed 3-D glasses to read the menus and it was tough to figure out the waitstaff's thick English.  But they were very nice & we enjoyed the food :)

YAY Sabor!!!!

Worthy Steakhouses in Milwaukee

Carnevor - Best quality but highest price - Get the true Japanese A5 Grade Kobe (not the crappy Waygu)

Eddie Martini's - Old school atmosphere and excellent quality / service

Mr. B's - Wood-Grilled steaks, cozy atmosphere, HALF PRICE BOTTLES OF WINE ON SUNDAYS

Coerper's 5 O'Clock Club - Biggest and most memorable steaks in the city (14 oz is your SMALL Filet?)

Butch's Clock House / Old Casino Steakhouse - Similar to Coerper's but cleaner - won't break the bank

Mo's a Place for Steaks - When it opened, it was great.  It deteriorated.  It is now back among the top.  If you haven't been there in the past 3 months, you have no basis for argument - the new additions to the menu are awesome - The McAlpine, for example, a Horseradish crusted Ribeye, is great.

Jake's - Fantastic quality, my second favorite Porterhouse in the city.

Restaurants that serve a mean cut of Red Meat -

Bacchus - High style dining with great steaks available - 2008 James Beard Winner Adam Siegel is Ex.Chef

Hinterland - Best new restaurant in Milwaukee in the past 5 years, usually has a steak on the menu but
check out the incredible ingredients they integrate into their menu - it's transcendent.

Mason Street Grill - Popular spot to dine, a few steaks on the menu but they are very good cuts.

Jackson Grill - My favorite Porterhouse in the city (sorry Jake's)

Lake Park Bistro - Try the french take on steak - again, 2008 James Beard Winner Adam Siegel is Ex.Chef

Dream Dance - Only other location in the city that serves true Japanese A5 Grade Kobe.  It's done differently than at Carnevor, but it is still very good

Chains that are worth a visit -

Capital Grille - Great service and good atmosphere

Fleming's - A little too dark on the inside, but steaks are always prepared to my request (they even know what Medium Rare Plus means and how to cook it, which is more than I can say than half of the restaurants listed)

Sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand.

I have to agree on Bacchus and I am going to a wedding reception there tonight and am having the Flat Iron steak. Adam Segal will there as well running the kitchen. Kind of excited about that.

I think you have to separate Butch's Clock House and Old Casino. Essentially the same menu I have lately had great things to say about the Old Casino Steakhouse but the last 2 times at the Clock House I have left with major issues. Temperature was way off, orders mistaken, rushed or very poor service well prevalent in both visits. I will never go back.
But I like to throw handfuls...

Good point - Butch himself is usually firing up the grill at the Old Casino location and service can vary between the two locales.  Still though, their Steer Filet is hard to deny as one of the best cuts served in the city.
