Any reviews? Thinking of taking the mrs on valentines day before the st johns game.

eaten there several times, ...very good, but pricey.

Yep, I can offer my opinion. Been there 6-8 times. Great service and food, but take your bank account as everything is ala carte and expensive. However, if your main squeeze is worth it, you won't be disappointed. I would put Coerpers and Eddie Martinis along with Carnevor as my favorites steak joints. Atmosphere is hip and trendy and the crowd is skewed younger. Noise level is a bit loud as the acoustics leave a lot to be desired.
Seafood is also served and tasty as well. Can vouch for the crab legs. They may offer both a hot or cold seafood appetizer that is especially yummy. Very similar to Eddie's seafood martini if you know what I mean? Don't miss dessert. The donut holes with 3 kinds of dipping sauces is recommended. Any lady would appreciate dining there and will you too. ::) No I don't have a vested interest if you're so wondering. Enjoy!

Very good food, but not the best in the Milwaukee area IMHO.  Kilawat is probably my favorite in Milwaukee right now, although I enjoy the restaurants up here (Kohler/Sheboygan).  The atmosphere at Kilawat has a lot to do with it as well.  Also reminds me of all the stupid things I've done while in Vegas...

Thanks for the feedback guys. Yeah I checked the menu and saw the prices already. I definitely won't be ordering the $160 Kobe steak. Everything just sounds so freakin good.

augoman

remember to get the mac and cheese as a side- outstanding!

HomeCourtAdvantage

And the black truffle mashed potato for sides as well.
Sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand.

They had an 8oz petite kobe fillet last time i was there. AWESOME! I do like it but personally have moved away from steakhouses and going to other great Milwaukee restaurants - namely Sanford.
But I like to throw handfuls...

Take a ride out to Brookfield and go to Mr. B's.  Best steakhouse in the area.

+1. I second that. Carnevor is a lot hipper, while Mr. B's is the quintessential steak place in the area. That said, you definitely can't go wrong at either restaurant.

If you do happen to go to Carnevor, though, get your steak "Oscar Style," which means it has crab cooked on top. ...I think I just drooled on my keyboard...

I personally like Sabor. The quality is excellent (not quite Carnevor level though)... but its all you can eat. MMMMMMMMMMMMM Steak.

I've had good luck with Yanni's as well

Yanni's is closed.

Bummer. That's where I had my graduation dinner in '06. My grandfather, a native of small-town Wisconsin, was absolutely floored by the prices, which were actually pretty reasonable.

spartan3186

When did Yanni's close?? I was just there a couple months ago.

augoman

really?..., Yanni's is closed?  crap- loved sitting o/side on the river, enjoying our goat-cheese ice cream desserts...,

Chili

I believe it closed late Aug / early Sept.

Yanni's was four blocks east of the river.  If you were eating goat cheese ice cream along the Milwaukee River, it was probably at Hinterland Erie Street Gastropub, in the Third Ward.
Ludum habemus.

Skatastrophy

Carnivore is packed every Saturday, and extra-packed on valentine's day.  There also won't be any parking down there, and if you're going early enough to get to the St. John's game at 8pm the valets might not be there yet ($7-$10, right outside Carnivore's front door).

I'm not trying to tell you that you shouldn't go there, just trying to warn you about some potential pitfalls :)

I'm going say I think the reference was to Yaffa's....  and it is closed as well, opening as something else soon.

Thanks for that uplifting post. Survival of the fittest seems to apply here. Didn't realize Hama closed. Where does anyone head for their sushi fix now?

Downtown or, surprising to say, Bluemound Road between Hwy 100 and Brookfield Road.

Downtown areas best are Izumis on Prospect and Nanakusa on Chicago in the Third Ward.  But out in Wauwatosa / Brookfield on Bluemound there's a strip decent Sushi places, from East heading West you've got Takara, Wasabi, Fujiyama, and Umami Moto... all very decent.

Monsoon sucked. So glad that place closed.

In regards to sushi, Umami Moto's fantastic. Also, I've never tried it or heard much about it, but Kiku, a sushi place, just opened downtown-- 2nd and Wisconsin Ave, i think.

Otherwise, you can check out the new sushi bar at the Union  ;) (but seriously, it's not bad for a food court)

Badgerhater

Japanica on S. 76th for good sushi.

Didn't go to any of them!   FYI....IL Mito on North Ave in Tosa is doing very well.

Also.   The Bar Lulu folks opened a second place at 61st and North in Tosa recently....it is called Juniper 61 and is quite good.
