Walter was told he could remain on scholarship but he would need to be as committed to the team as every one of the other scholarship players were.  Walter chose to focus on track and field in the offseason, which resulted in missing team workouts, activities, etc.  And he had every right to.  Just like Wojo had every right to ask him to fully commit himself to the basketball team since he was using up one of his 13 scholarships on him while track and field was getting him for free.

Thanks, is it somewhere the other could verify?

That's one take on the matter. Another would be that the staff knew that Wally was an elite track athlete when they took him on scholarship and that his track and field endeavors were part of the package, so they should honor his scholarship while understanding that for certain parts of the year, track (which is the sport he is dominant in) would take precedence.

I was in the latter camp, but it's all water under the bridge now. I understand why the staff wants full commitment, I also understand why the Ellensons would feel like they may have had some rug pulled out from under.

I think we fully litigated this last spring guys.  Let's not Jill Stein this.  (Not saying you are my friend.)

I'm happily done with it. Just saying there were two sides, understand both, now time to move on.

Though if we're going to recount the support for the Pole-axing of Wally, I demand it be done by hand.

Have some patience, FFS.

GGGG

And outside of the initial tweets from Wally's mom, there really has been nothing said publicly by anyone.  Hardly a controversy.

I followed it, the Mom mention Smoke & Mirrors, but who do you believe.  From the outside looking in the implications I gather from his mom was Wally was promised things that didn't happen.

On the other side Wojo's  story was Wally was told he would be on the end of the bench.

So, as of now I haven't seen anything to support either story, that makes them  true or false.

If you have some knowledge, maybe you might share.  Thanks

Jesse Livermore wrote the definitive treatise on this issue. He should weigh in on any recount.
