Some questions I've been curious about regarding visiting teams to MU.

Typically they arrive 36 to 48 hours before the game.  Correct?  Do they get time to workout at the AL?  Does MU make another facility available to them (Old Gym?).  Or, do they just practice at the BC?  Do they get to workout the day before in the BC?  What if the Admirals or Bucks are using the facility?  Then what?  Or do they just workout the day of the game (early morning if it is a 1PM start)

Do opposing teams stay in a hotel or some sort of campus housing?  Does MU stay in hotels when visiting or campus housing?

Do the teams meet each other before they play, say the day before.  I assume that our players have friends on the opposing team.  Do they get time to get together the day before (lunch?)  I'm assuming the opposing team leaves immediately after the game so their is no team afterwards.

If Buzz is buddies with the opposing coach, does he meet with the opposing coach before the game?  For instance, will they have dinner the night before?

How about when MU is on the road?

When I've been to games in the East, MU has often been in the same hotel (they do have $10 mil in expenses) or one across the street.

Don't know about practice arrangements but I believe most visiting teams stay at the Hilton.  We were there New Year's Eve both in 2010 and 2011 prior to our 10a starts the next morning.  Both visiting BEast teams stayed there as team luncheons etc. were listed on the daily events board.  In 2010, guests also included the Harlem Globetrotters and the Washington Generals!

Last year, Pitt stayed at the Hyatt.

MU stays at a hotel the night before home games too.

Stretchdeltsig

We have seen Cincinatti and other teams stay at the Intercontinental.

Minnesota practiced at Wisconsin Lutheran College when they were here for the NCAA Tourney...

All the College Gameday broadcasters and sidelines reporters stayed at the Hyatt.

LSU was at the Pfister this past year.

Interesting that all people can do is offer anecdotal stories about what Hotel they see teams/people in downtown.  I take this to mean that no one else knows any of the other questions I posed above.

I guess we really do not know much about what opposing teams do, or what we do when on the road.

It also seems true that they stay at a variety of downtown hotels.

I'd imagine for some schools its not unlike any major company that has relationships with certain hotel chains and get good deals or rewards with those hotels. For example, when available, a school might always stay with Hilton, Hyatt, etc. because of negotiated rates.

Visiting teams make the decisions and pay for the accomodations. Its not our responsibility to put them up somewhere.

Typically they arrive 36 to 48 hours before the game.  Correct?  NCAA has a rule that prevents a team from traveling to a road game more than 48 hours before tipoff.  Typically, a team won't approach the 48 hour mark unless they're coming in two nights before a morning game.  Usually arrival is the afternoon of the day before gameday (24-36 hours).  Occasionally a team may arrive the morning of game for a night game, but it's generally avoided.

Do they get time to workout at the AL?  Does MU make another facility available to them (Old Gym?).  Or, do they just practice at the BC?  It depends on the schedules... but yes, typically teams workout (practice) locally the day of arrival or the day before a game.  I think MUHS has been used as a workout site, though I don't know if this is typical.  I would guess workouts are off-campus at most schools... though since MU's on-campus facilities are on a different level than many (privacy-wise), the Al (upstairs) has been used by visiting teams in the past, but I don't recall if this was during tournaments or regular-season contests.  I know that one or some MPS schools have been used as workout sites... though not sure which ones and again, whether tournament only or regular-season.

Do they get to workout the day before in the BC? What if the Admirals or Bucks are using the facility? Probably not, because the floor may not be assembled that far in advance.  I remember several times as a student being in the building 90 mins before a game and watching them just putting up the baskets.

Or do they just workout the day of the game (early morning if it is a 1PM start)?
As long as nothing else is going on and the floor is laid, teams can access the BC several hours prior to the gates opening, so presumably they could go do walk-throughs or shootarounds on the court.  Though not open to the public, they are not closed-door (e.g. BC staff, media, opposing team players/coaches all have access to the BC).

Do opposing teams stay in a hotel or some sort of campus housing?  Does MU stay in hotels when visiting or campus housing? Always hotels.  I don't think NCAA allows campus housing as an option for visiting teams any longer.

Do the teams meet each other before they play, say the day before.  I assume that our players have friends on the opposing team.  Do they get time to get together the day before (lunch?)  Frankly, between walk-throughs, practices, video sessions, team meals, and curfews, there's not much free time for players during road games.

I'm assuming the opposing team leaves immediately after the game so their is no team afterwards.  Typically, yes... the team has already checked out of the hotel before the game starts.  The only exception is a Savannah St.-type scenario where they play MU one day and then play UW a couple days later.  They may stay in MKE that night and then bus to Madison in the morning.

If Buzz is buddies with the opposing coach, does he meet with the opposing coach before the game?  For instance, will they have dinner the night before?  IIRC, Buzz has occasionally mentioned talking to opposing coaches the day before games, so perhaps these were in-person meetings?  I don't know, but when you're the coach, you can do whatever you want.

How about when MU is on the road?
Pretty much the same as above, only flip-flopped.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

Thanks Benny, very enlightening.

One last thing.  I assume the home team helps the visiting team make the arrangements for hotels, practice facilities, transportation (bus).  Correct?  Or are the schools on their own to figure it out for themselves?

I asked our athletic director about this...he used to do this at another school.  Usually they stay at branded hotels where they have contracts, otherwise the host school has recommendations for transportation, etc., but it is up to the visiting school to work out the details.

Not sure about practice facilities however.

ChitownSpaceForRent

In terms of practice facilities I think it depends. When Illinois was playing in the Sweet 16/Elite 8 at the Allstate Arena in 2005 they did their practices at a High School around that area (Maine East).
