that would fall under the category of extenuating circumstances...again 15 n 7 snd he stays... but he is greatly underacheiving...i can understand looking at greener pastures its what people do.  But the question remains do we want a backup averaging 4 a game....sounds about like the players everyone is complaining about

How many freshman, regardless of position, average 15 points and 7 assists per game? Vander was a 5 star and ranked 30 spots higher than Branch and how productive was he as a freshman? Same as Jamil Wilson. The fact of the matter is freshman don't produce those kinds of numbers unless they are lottery picks, and then they transfer to the NBA. I'm not sure how you can conclude that a freshman who has a senior starting in front of him that is averaging 4.2 points, 2.4 assists, and 2.2 rebounds per game in 18 minutes is underachieving. By comparison, our starting junior point guard (who was ranked higher than him coming into his freshman year) is averaging 6.9 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 5 assists per game in 26 minutes. Give Branch 26 minutes and he's only slightly less productive as a freshman than Junior is as a junior. Also compare Branch's numbers to our freshman point guard with an upperclassman in front of him. Derrick Wilson is averaging 0.7 points, 0.9 assists, and 1.3 rebounds in 12.3 minutes per game.

Take into account that recruiting sites list as a great shooter, defender, and ball handler and a good passer, I would absolutely have wanted him if he wanted to come here. Junior's weaknesses are he can't defend anybody with a high school varsity level quickness and he can't shoot from the outside so defenders can help off of him. Branch would be a nice change from that.

The fact is freshman don't contribute unless they're starting, and they don't start unless they're incredibly talented and physically mature. A top 15 recruit. To say Branch is underachieving while watching a senior start in front of him is just uneducated and simply wrong.

Would've loved him at Marquette. Let's get Nunn.

I'm not sure how good a coach he is, but I have always really liked Lavin.  I hope he does well enough at St. John's to always finish one slot behind MU in the standings (hopefully second) and lives a long and prosperous life.  Really is interesting how he is spending what energy he has on the recruiting aspects of the position, which is arguably his greatest strength.

Don't any big time players want to come to Marquette? The program has really slipped. I don't think any bigs want to come because of our style of play. After McGuire left, we had Raymonds, Majerus, The Piano Player, McNeill, Crean, and Buzz. When are going to address this and get a top established candidate and pay him, since Basketball pays for most or all sports at MU. We can't rest on 1977 Laurels. Yes, we had Wade. that's it. We are going small time and thinking big time and resting on our early laurels. Come on AD start taking charge.

You base this off of not landing Branch?  Talk about extrapolating yourself off a cliff!!! If the 2013 class is Burton and Nunn, that's 2 out of 2 scholarships used on top 50 players.  Yet we are going small time and resting on our "early laurels"? What???  Get back on your meds dude, we're trending up not down.

Also, who said Buzz wanted to take Branch in the first place?  It would mean booting someone off the current team or reneging on a committed and signed player.  Seems like Buzz was in a catch 22 with fans on this one.  Land him and Buzz is a bad guy for over-signing.  Don't land him and we can't compete with the big boys (even though there was no evidence we even offered him).  Hysterical!

Vander was a big time player and he came to Marquette, No?

Kevin O'Neill or Jerel McNeal, not both-McNeill.

We need more than just Burton and hopefully Nunn. i WOULD NEVER GET ON bUZZ FOR OVER RECRUITING. The big wheels do it all the time. (Kansas, U Conn. etc.) Where are the bigs???

Branch isn't a big. Maybe Buzz feels really good about Nunn or other 2013 players. Honestly not sure how you see we "missed" on Branch and go on that aimless rant. Show me where we even offered.

When Branch announced his tranfer HE said MU was at the top of his list. Now MU isn't on his list at all. Logic suggests MU took a pass.

That was my interpretation exactly. Could be wrong though.

Shocking how many people cannot pick that up.

This whole thing reminds me of when we "passed" on Jarion Henry and willie warrior's insane rant right after about Buzz's horrible recruiting. Though I don't have the same negative view I have on Branch that I did (and do) on Henry, I have a feeling that if we were on top of his list and we were interested, he'd at least be getting a visit, probably this weekend for the Pittsburgh game when there are about 11,372 former players in town for the game.

I agree that the Branch camp seems to have inquired, we decided to pass on him, they moved on. For what it's worth, I think that says Buzz is confident we will be full up for 2012 and 2013. Doesn't mean we might not see a transfer out, but I'm guessing that if anyone goes, we'll have someone else coming in.

free willie

The cat hasn't been online since the end of July.  Hope he didn't have an apoplectic fit and die....miss the dude.  And if he did, he posted seven too many or he would have gone out in Warrior style.
