With the relatively mild winter, the new arena is taking shape. I thought folks here from out of town would like to see progress.
The first shot is from 6th Street looking north. You can see the Belair Tacos building form taking shape.
This is the parking structure
This is from the east looking west with the Bradley Center to the left. The old parking structure is down where the entertainment plaza is going.

Pat, ya hearin' BMO again, hey?
milwaukee tool is the official "tool" of the construction site. not sure if they are going to throw their dollars into the ring for naming rights. my son works for them out in raleigh and they just went thru a major software "upgrade" that has really facked up their logistics. they may need to get their house in order first cuz customers , tool reps, the whole supply line is a mess. can't believe they didn't have a plan B in place
I can almost guarantee Milwaukee Tool won't buy the naming rights. They don't really do any advertising for sporting events as far as I know (no ads at Miller Park, no Milwaukee NASCAR car, no ads at the BC, etc...) The arena site is kind of a special circumstance because it's an actual job site using Milwaukee tools.

I am also curious to find out the plans for the entertainment district.
If it doesn't honor the city's ethnic heritage by having an outdoor beer garden, I am going to be upset. The artist's renderings don't seem to include a place for it.
I remember reading something recently about "having larger glass roof for beer garden" .. so I think it's there.
The interior .. nice oval shape for a hockey rink. I know they said they weren't, then were going to have one. Looks like yes.

I don't recall them saying they weren't going to have a hockey rink. They just said it was going to be primarily for basketball.
I expect it to be 100 times better sight line-wise than the BC is.

I was thinking it was going to be more like the open space at the Rosemont complex that they use for concerts and stuff. They turn that into an ice skating rink in the winter, which would have been cool as well.

Huh?
A few observations:
A really low ceiling = very loud, no parachute drops.
On the east side, there is an exterior upper balcony overlooking the entertainment area.
The entertainment area reminds me of the Power & Light District in KC at the Sprint Center.
The Blue Moon Lady is in the graphics. MolsonCoors will be a sponsor of the entertainment district.
I hope the entertainment district has heaters. Otherwise, it will flop as 3/4 of the use is in the winter.
What goes in at the BC space makes or breaks the project.

I believe the Power and Light district is something they are modeling it after, which I'm excited about.
I think they said later on that the ice would be for events like Disney on Ice and trying to get a Frozen Four. I'm also hoping that leaves the flexibility out there for an NHL team in the future. Although, that's a bit of a pipe dream.

The practical use of the arena is 3/4s winter. What killed the business area around the BC previously is that all the business shifts to the Maier Grounds in the attendance months. Honestly, it is the Cubs fans that keep Old World Third Street in business in the summer now.

So, there is ice for a full size hockey rink. The bucks didn't want the admirals at the new arena.
Anyone know the reason? I understand having permanent ice under a basketball floor isn't the best, but it also is very workable. So, there must be another reason. Disruption and time to go from a hockey to/from a basketball set up? Other?
This no to the admirals started very early in the process, before any lease negotiations would have been going on... so I don't think it was as simple as the admirals wouldn't pay enough rent. Originally, they told everyone that there would only be a 3/4 size ice rink for Disney, etc, so no way to make the admirals work.

The power and light district in KC is a great place to hang out. Love this idea
3/4ths or no 3/4ths .. I'll call it now: The "beer garden" .. and the entire entertainment district will be a long-term flop.
Short term, it'll have some curious crowds. And surges during NBA+MU games. Long term .. non-game day, maybe Fri/Sat, it might be half full. -- And 90% of the customers that are there are being stolen from other downtown areas, Water Street, 3rd, etc.
MKE is absolutely chock full of places to eat and drink. A bunch of new local beer gardens have sprouted up in the past 5 years. Tons of restaurants, bars, new local beer gardens, etc, with plenty of character in far better locations, on rivers, lakefront, than this crappy area of town .. all cheaper, and with plentiful free parking.
Let's revisit this post in 2022 or so..

Reason was never giving to the Admirals. Jerk move by the Bucks.
That being said, the Admirals are trilled playing in UWM Panther Arena. The Admirals get a huge chunk of the new arena team store sales. Also, they get a solid percentage from concessions.

It's probably worked out the best for all parties.
Interesting that no reason was given. It is curious to me that the Bucks owners decided this so early on in the process. A bit strange.
Good to hear that the Admirals like how it turned out. They are a nice plus to Milwaukee, downtown, and they put on a good show/game experience.
The move seems to make a lot of sense, given that the arena has to be a better environment for the crowds they normally draw. Plus, it seems like they have more control over what happens at the area as the main tenant (unless you count UWM basketball as the main tenant). Probably best for UWM, the arena, and the Admirals. It should also be best for MU, not having to compete with them for dates.
I'd think the losers are the Bucks - but obviously the Bucks didn't want them and don't see it that way.

UWM is the main tenant as it's in the lease for the naming rights. With the Admirals with 40 plus dates. UWM with 16. Milwaukee Wave Soccer with 12 plus, circus, graduations, roller derby and concerts, the ole Mecca Arena is doing well with events and the 10 million in upgrades last year.

Has anyone here been in the new arena and has seen the actual seats installed? Or are there any close up of the seats and rows?
Im interested in seeing how they look, cup holders, size compared to the BC and knee room compared to the BC.
If anyone has been inside the new arena or come across close up photo's of the seats, some info would be appreciated.
The rows in the new arena, look really long, with fewer breaks for ingress/egress (I could be completely wrong on this, but from some of the renderings, I'm left with this impression). If true, I hope there is enough leg room to allow people to pass without having to stand up.
As you can tell, hellllloo legroom!!
I was there on Friday. Lower level seats were in and had cup holders. Seats appear to be roomier.
I cannot stress enough how small it feels and I mean that in a good way. It's impeccably designed. I think even a Tuesday vs Savannah State will feel full.
Also, many parts are near done such as select suites, green rooms for concerts etc and certain concession areas. The fixtures and decor is phenomenal.
Having billionaires spend taxpayer money can yield some incredible quality. Miller Park always struck me as a nice ballpark built on a budget. This thing appears to have no budget.

I think with 10,000 or so lower level seats, the arena will look more full.
One thing that sets this arena apart from most others is that you have visibility from the concourse between the lower level and the suites above.

Exactly. The upper deck Lois like there's only 10 rows in it (there's more than that) so small upper deck crowds won't feel so cavernous.

It'll be interesting to see .. imagining it, I'm not sure it will look fuller. I mean .. for a Savanna State game, the lower bowl is probably 75% full. Now that the lower section is bigger (not to mention lower bowl seats will be more expensive, pushing people upstairs) .. the lower will look less than 75% (maybe 50%?) and the upper will look fuller.
Time will tell.
You know what I find interesting at this point? I like that idea, personally. I know it would ruffle feathers and end up costing the university some money, so it won't happen, but that kind of seating plan offers a great environment. Hopefully they stick with the general admission plan and keep ticket prices relatively low. I think when I was a student tickets were around $100, maybe $125. Any idea as to what they go for now?

I just bought tickets to see the Foo Fighters at "Wisconsin Entertainment and Sports Complex" in October. It took me a while to figure out where the heck that was supposed to be.

Let's hope they stay smart and keep it $99. They raised it on the kids a couple years back and student ticket sales plummeted. They quickly reversed that the decision the next year. Now limiting the quantity somewhat as has been discussed might make some sense.

Not without a concourse break in the seating. You simply cannot have 20 year old kids standing and jumping (and forcing our sweater vests to stand in order to see) without that 10 foot rise that Duke has between the sections. 100% non starter. I'm sure you appreciate and understand.

That's a good point. I didn't realize that was part of the Cameron design. That's actually the stadium I had in mind when I said having students up close can offer a great environment. I know that I wouldn't want to be forced to stand the whole game, so I'm hoping they keep the arrangement similar to what it is now.

Well he said it would make for a great environment. And it would. It would piss off the sweater vests but it would make a great environment. As a non-student and soon to be sweater vest I would vote for it but know I'm in the minority.
Plus, the students aren't around for about 5 weeks of the season...the Christmas Break resale program is quite successful....now you run the risk of pissing off your regular STHs.

I'm not arguing with him TAMU and skianth totally gets it now that I've described the Cameron logistics. But one simply cannot ask many elderly people to stand. My seatmate Jack who occupies two of the very best seats in the upper deck has been a season ticket holder since 1971. Every year; essentially every game. Loooooong before you were even born. I've heard naming rights are done. Will be announced in a few weeks. Do agree though that you're wasting value by announcing elite concerts without giving your naming rights partner part of that excitement.
The arena does have a modest wall drop to floor. It's conceivable MU COULD HAVE students stand on floor. Unlikely though.

Illinois does this. A small-ish group of students pays a little extra to be on the floor during games. I think they go maybe 2-3 rows deep along the sidelines and then the baselines are more like 5-6 rows. I don't even think they have a typical student section outside of that. For the few games I went to there when I was visiting friends in college, we just sat in the regular seats.
Are there going to be seats behind the baskets that does not have a wall in front of you ?

Absolutely not. "Some money" might be seven or eight figures depending on which donors you piss off (a/k/a, all the ones who will be behind the students). I know two folks personally who sit in the first few rows, and one of them is a seven-figure donor to the program and the other is at least a mid-six figure donor.
How much do you think the alleged additional enhancement to the game environment is worth? Seriously, put a dollar figure on it for me.
Also, do you really want the knuckleheads who were chanting "F you, Nova" front and center during a nationally televised game?

Agreed about not expecting the elderly to stand. But there are ways to work around that. Give the students an entire lower bowl section and fill in the alumni on the other side of the stadium and the sections around the students. No alumni have to stand to see the game and most would only have to move back a row or two. Alumni would be grumpy for the first few years but it would become part of the norm in a few year, and eventually a point of pride about having one of the best home atmospheres in the country.
I know, I know. $$$$$. It won't happen. When I win the lottery and commission Benny's On Campus Thunderdome I'll make sure the stadium is designed like Cameron

If you go to the Interior View and select View 2 on the bottom, there is a wall that separates the second level seating (above the suites) in the corner. Is that a permanent wall and if so, can people sitting in the seats next to the wall see the whole court?

Because this thought process happens for people?:

What?!?...the new arena is now going to be called the Milorganite Center? Wow! I hope there's some floor seats left for that Foo Fighters concert!!

I'd guess that wall is at exactly the right angle to see the entire court when tucked away back there.

It doesn't convince people to buy a ticket, but it's certainly part of the expected marketing buzz that any naming rights sponsor counts on when forking over all that money. Having a globally recognized band like the Foo Fights say the name of your arena in emails, social media posts, and interviews is great publicity. I'm guessing the average person not living in SE Wisconsin may not know who Foxconn is, but when Foxconn Arena is listed on dozens or hundreds of websites announcing tours and events, that means something.

Because they are done advertising the show, and "Foo Fighters" and "Milorganite" will never be mentioned at the same time ever again?
There is no way the promoters are going to delay marketing the concert because the naming rights aren't set up yet. And if a sponsor wants to gripe on missing out on the initial announcement, they should have signed the papers earlier.

Sure, they will, but the buzz is always the biggest on first announcement. Whatever massive corporation is willing to shell out the buck for the name will be just fine missing out on some of the early hype here, but it's probably still a bummer for them.

Its tough to argue that Milorganite isn't losing value on a naming rights deal by not being in place before initial event announcements. And its not unreasonable to speculate that that lost value translates to reductions (however small) to the final purchase price for those rights.
Time is Money is very true in naming rights deals. What do people refer to it as now, on the news, etc: The New Arena? Certainly not the Northwestern Arena, or whatever. The owner's are missing out on whatever value there has been for the past year in having a contract in place.
The Bucks owners apparently overshot/over valued what the naming rights are worth. But, I think it will all work out well enough.
It also looks like they may have overreached/overvalued on the entertainment area. Now it will be smaller and there have been potential tenants securing locations to the north and east, instead of the Buck's entertainment area. Again, they will be fine, but with less to lease out. I will be interested to see what ends up there - hopefully not a Miller/Coors or other corporate type of bar/restaurant.
Looking at the interior view, looks like a lot of sun light that will come in during a day game. Could be annoying?

Structural engineering be damned! Can't have this wall supporting the massive dead and live loads on this building next to me!
Not a big fan of the long aisles. Too many up and downs like Miller Park. The views look greatly improved, however.

Well, my hopes for a darker arena experience have been quashed.
It is going to be light and bright:
https://www.biztimes.com/2018/industries/arts-entertainment-sports/bucks-arena-90-percent-complete/
Next, I'll find out the rows will be no wider than the BC and everyone in those long rows will have to stand-up to let people past... but I guess more revenue since there will be fewer aisles, which means more seats, which also means you can now charge a premium for seats close to the aisle...
At least we'll have cup holders! That will be an improvement. Sight lines will be an improvement, so we have that as well. Hopefully more bathrooms and shorter lines at halftime, but I doubt that will happen.
They should just keep "The Milwaukee Tool Construction Site" name and do "The Milwaukee Tool Center", I see no problems with that
I was down in Nashville this past weekend with my family for a hockey game. Having never been in another arena besides MSG, I was keen to see what Bridgestone was like.

I Wish Milwaukee Tool could be up front in those sharp RED Letters. But two reasons why that won't happen.
1. Bucks want a National/Global Brand...They might think "Milwaukee" in the name doesn't fit with what they have in mind.
2. Although MET really is a global brand, growing by leaps and bounds, $20mil/yr they do not want to spend on that type of advertising.
Not really sure how we will know what the lighting will be, until the season starts.
I am very excited about the new arena. Think people will be very pleased with all aspects... Except maybe ticket prices haha.

Right, when they are ready for final inspection and punch list items can prevent that from happening. Many times have been asked to go to a project in punch list stage for safety systems / health certificates only to have to point out that items on punch list won't allow me to issue certificates.

Depends on AHJ's, of course. I've worked with munis who will issue TCO if punchlist is nominal and fire & health have signed off; also worked with others who won't issue TCO unless every last drip tray is installed on every soda dispenser. Most fall somewhere in the middle... but I haven't run into a situation yet where a city manager and/or city council couldn't get a TCO done (if properly motivated).
Obviously, if there are LS components on the punch, TCO won't happen, regardless.

By "actual thing" do you mean no SSH preview? Then yes, that is an actual thing, covered in another thread and based on the MU Game Day website, or wherever the new arena info is. You'll have to use the online maps\resources to pick your seat location, because there will not be a live "open house". Not necessarily blaming MU for this - perhaps the Bucks would not allow it, but for the $ that we think we're going to have to pay for seats next season, it would have been nice to get a in person look at the seats beforehand.
I can't think the Bucks have one as well. I know there is a viewing at the Pabst. I believe MU will be doing that as well.

Both Michigan State and Ohio State had to tarp off a few rows at the top of their student sections because the first few rows of the sections above ("sweater vests") were blocked by standing students.
Maryland took notice of this when they built their new arena and put the students down low. The difference, however, is the new Eagles Nest is not being built for MU and creating a great college basketball environment, it's for the Bucks and NBA games, we're the secondary tenants. The seating bowl design is focused on revenue and comfort.

Heading down to the new arena today for a meeting with MU. They're having some initial meeting with ticket holders to discuss prices for the new seats in a suite in the new arena. It'll be interesting to hear what kind of increases we are looking at for the new seats. I'll let you all know when I hear what ballpark they're thinkin.

Looking forward to your updates. I'm less concerned about price increase than your impressions on the seating. Such as the quality of the seats, views, leg room, foot room for getting in and out of the long rows, etc. I've already reconciled with the fact that prices will be going up somewhere in the 25% to 40% range.

I'm anxious too! We'll have to wait until late May to find out pricing. I didn't hear about it the students prices, but if your saying student tickets are going up 40%, that is not any base in what will happen to the general adult season-ticket holders. Student tickets in past years, has been $99 per season.

Yup, we just are not among the "preferred" tiers. MU needs to do better here. There was an article in the JS recently about the "big flush" for all the toilets in the arena during May which would be the last hurdle for getting the occupancy permit. Hmmm, the selection process will be in July for the vast majority of us............
Technically they are paying the fees marquette athletics has historically covered for students

Yeah, just have one partially empty areas instead of two.
40% is high but not really. The price is so low now it makes it seem like a larger increase than it actually is. It's still less than $10 a game for prime seats. Even if one only attended Big East games it's just $15. Can students still put their tickets on their tuition bills like we could in the 90's?

Significantly improved inventory and resale value too.
Student tickets are still $99 per season. The students now have to pay the fee's and taxes. Marquette used to pay in the past. Marquette now with the new lease has to pay the fees, if the students show up or not. In the past, they had to pay when they showed up. At the end of the day it's only a $2.27 per game increase and priced way below value compared to the comparable seats in that area. The new section is smaller, 2970.
I like that they are doing two sides for the students. Should be a fun environment. Maybe it will hide a little better when there's lower student attendance by having them more spread out.
40% added cost seems a bit steep. Do we know how much smaller the student section is now based on that?

my freshman year, coming off the Sweet 16, I think season tickets for students were $39 and I don't remember them increasing much at all.

There are almost 1500 more lower bowl seats for the students in the new arena. It did not say students could not buy upper bowl tickets, if they miss out on lower bowl. So 1000 students could sit upstairs. More than that were sitting upstairs in the old arena if I understood the article correctly.

So MU is going to turn away 1,000 students. That does not seem likely to me. All the article said is they were setting aside two lower bowl sections. I did not see were they would not allow an overrun in the upper section. They would be idiots, if they did not allow that because most games will not sell out.
Well, let's slow the bus. The section is still almost 3,000. It will be a bit tougher to sell those seats as students now have to pay the fees and tax.

I don't think the new owners have read "How to Win Friends and Influence People".

I don't believe there is any type of requirement to reveal the terms of the deal, and if it was far below what the Bucks owners were hoping to get, they won't be any hurry to do it voluntarily.
I wonder if they will have to release the naming numbers. It is a quasi-state agency.

I'm kind of thinking not. The Bucks were given total control. Not like MU's lease is public info. But I could certainly be wrong.
I'm sensing something here. Namely that the owners may have some sense that they have pushed a 'New York approach' too hard. Perhaps they will try to mend a few fences? Aaron Rodgers? That would make sense in my scenario.
Anyway.

This. 09-14 first two years were 90 by the time my fourth or fifth year came around it was upwards of 100.
I went to the preferred seating presentation on Friday, and was pleasantly surprised. They are adding 6 or 7 rows of preferred seating on the sidelines, with different price points. I was expecting a 40% increase after reading some stuff here, and it's not even close to that. Couple interesting things were brought up: The two aisle seats are 5% more than the rest of the row(not sure if this is only in preferred or in every section), and they will go to the "hockey" rules of going to your seats (have to wait for a break in play, can't just wonder around whenever you please).

fantastic news on both. more than willing to pay an aisle seat premium. especially with the long rows.
As a aisle-seater due to bringing my kids to every game - only 1 group is more annoying than the middle-of-the-rowers who arrive 2 minutes into every game with their buffalo chicken tenders and beers in hand - the people who's first game is in February and they wander around the aisle trying to figure it out after arriving precisely following a media timeout.

There were four other ticket holders in my group, and everyone seemed very pleased with the presentation. Joe True was excellent as always, nothing came up that he didn't have an answer for. It seems like they have this down as well as could be expected, considering they haven't even received the final seating arrangements for every section yet. An example being there will be two rows on the floor at the new arena along the sideline, as oppossed to one at the Bradley Center. They haven't been told where the cameramen will be located, etc, so they are leaving out a few seats the first year so they have the option of moving seats down a foot or two so everyone has the best view possible.
That's great to hear! I saw a map of the pricing for the first 8 rows or so and the floor seats. The price increase is not much at all! Adding it up fast, look to be a 11% to 13% increase.

Because it extends 8 rows now, the majority will be paying more than the list price increase if they so choose (vs. the BC). Isn't there club level services here too with the upgrade?
The Pink Floor seats last year were $9850. The three center Red seats were (I think first two rows) were $4475. The Blue (the rest of the six center sections) were $1320. And Purple (the four corner court side) were $980.
So many Reds and Blues with big points will have to trade into first 8 rows or move back on both sides. I think they are doing the Sideline STHs now and the Preferred start May 1.

Can't think of anything catchy with Fiserv, kinda sucks.
I feel like I really missed out on a lot at Marquette wthout Ziggy's and The Lanche.

The Lanche was just a college bar. It is more about the memories than the actual place.

The Lanche was more than just a college bar .... plenty of locals wore that place out during the day and early evenings before the kids made their way across the street.

Agreed, nothing made you understand the importance of an education more than when you would go to the Lanche between classes.
I spent many afternoons at the Lanche and loved it. It definitely was a great education of life during the day. Lanche was my first MU bar that served me underage. My older buddy took me there and then to Art's for my first strip club. Great memories.

That was the one I heard, though I'm much happier with the remaining names they list as possibilities:
...it still leaves a number of other major names like Kohler, SC Johnson, Milwaukee Tool, Rockwell Automation and Robert W. Baird. My favorite potential nicknames...
- The Rock
- The Toolbox
- The Bob
- The Big Johnson
Sorry, Kohler, sounds too much like the Kohl Center. Though hmm...how about The Sink?
I'm going to have a hard time getting out of the habit of calling it the Chaluparena. Hell, I may not even try and call it the Chaluparena no matter what.

Manpower could probably get added to that list. I think The Manhole would make a pretty good name for a.......you know now that I hear myself saying it in my head, probably best it's not them.

If you can't use "Man", the Gloryhole would work.

Manhole already is taken by a bar on the north side of Chicago.
How many times has the current Buck's ownership group said the naming rights purchaser would be announced soon? Or said that the tenants in the entertainment district would be announced soon?. It seems like they have been on the verge of a naming rights deal a few times, or so they thought or said publicly. I'd think at this point, it has to be a buyers market for the naming rights, since so many options have said no, or at least said no at the original proposed terms.
Maybe they try to push pressure on some lurkers, by saying they are close to sealing a naming rights deal or maybe they are too sharp of negotiators in the end...?
Some thought it was coming out last Friday. I would think that company would want it's name out their, since concerts are coming out all the time. I believe they are over 10 already.

I was told by a bucks employee that it was done about 3 weeks ago and the lawyers were finalizing the details. I was also told it was Fiserv which was refuted by some local blog, so we'll see, I would certainly expect this guy to know.

A low level Bucks employee told me last week it's done and he / she knows who it is. I thought about killing the person to find out but have heard Waupun has terrible WiFi and accessing Scoop from the inside is tough so I thought better of it.
I was told that the problem is that they haven't finished installing the dancing poles yet. Once poles are installed Silk Exotic will be revealed with over 100 dancers at time of announcement. This was revealed to me by Russian intelligence sources.

That tells me that Bucks ownership has no belief that the Bucks will ever win a championship. A locker room with open wood slats for a ceiling? If champagne was sprayed up into that, it could NEVER be cleaned.

I know it was teal, but does anyone else find the industrial look of the buck's locker horrible.
Odds this is named before the season? There are multiple posters on here with inside info who said "this is the week" a month ago :o

I have to think either the deal wasn't as done as they indicated or there's some big rollout planned to coincide with the announcement. I'm not sure why the sponsoring company wouldn't want the press that would attach them to all the events coming.
I assume at some point in the near future they need to start putting up the signage on the building with the sponsor.
At this point I want the greedy meddling idiots running the bucks to somehow fail to sell naming rights to the building. Live for the lulz

Very long shot. Wisconsin won't even be participating in legalizing gambling due to the tribal pacts. That wold eliminate the local or state play, there is no national play here either. At least not yet.
