Talk us down please. Give us some reasonable and optimistic mindset to adopt looking at this whole thing

I am not worried one bit. Obviously anxious to hear final outcome like everyone else, but not concerned. I am confident all the right people and representing the university in best fashion. Beyond that there is nothing you can do.

I feel a lot better about having Cords and Wild involved than I would if Larry and Pilarz were running the show.  Can you imagine the panic around here if those two were still here?

The only good news is that Shaka has not said no. That means he is listening. People who have dealt with him say Smart is unbelievably detailed, he leaves no stone unturned and asks hundreds of questions. This isn't a process that "just happens." Undoubtedly, this would be a Marquette game-changing hire. My worst case scenario is finding out Howland goes to Wake this afternoon and we don't get Smart. Then we chose btw Wardle and Marshall (Crean, part 2).

At least we don't completely fall into mediocrity I mean Crean did bring us the Big 3 and got lucky with Wade for a couple years.  It'd keep us in a position where we don't drop terribly.

Please pass the mustard, asked Sara.
And what, no horseradish with that corned beef?
Too spicy, she replied.
Is it always that way?
Ernie Banks jerseys should not be worn.
Could we all just relax?
Everything will be fine.

Put it where you would like to put it.
Are you sure about that?
Unless it would be too painful
Let me try then

Is everything so cryptic?
Sal Mineo was overrated...

Did James Dean ever win an Oscar?
Even Paul Newman was snubbed
Alright, already
Did we hear the news?

Would you like some more corned beef?
Even if it gives me gas?
Doesn't everything give you gas!
No, she stammered...
Everyone is anxious
Sy's Deli did an excellent Reuben
Did they really close?
Abe Foreman is not a Marquette grad.
Yet, what could have been...

Ash Wednesday was two weeks ago
Is it just me?
Maybe I am worrying too much

He needs one more meeting I am told
Is that the last hurdle?
Guess so
How would you handle a life decision?

Ask me anything
Let me feel your forehead
Lent is a time of remembrance

It should be at least
Smart money says so

Get on the bus, Gus
Oscar Madison was too contrived
Orson Welles was from Kenosha
Did he gain weight in Hollywood?

I'd agree that winning masks things, but if you're really honest, the bottom line is that Crean isn't a real likable guy on or off the court. You need a certain amount of ego, but he takes it beyond bearable. It's just who he is, and I'm not a Crean hater. He brought us back to relevancy and I appreciate it. Buzz was more of a crazy uncle kind of guy that was as lovable as flat out weird. He had the ego, but he tried to hide it in his "aw shucks" way versus Crean, who didn't really care what anyone thought. Winning makes it all better, but once "character is revealed" you still know you're in bed with the devil. Smart and Howland are respected by many, and I hope it goes that way. I've heard some Marshall control/ego stuff in the Crean vein that I hope we can avoid.

All the guys I've talked to in the last 48 hours say Smart is a savant -- deliberate, conservative and a true critical thinker. He is a pro/cons, long-term, short-term, weigh-every-option, hundreds-of-questions kind of guy. I'll say it again, that he hasn't said "no" by now is a good sign.

Keefe, Goose, & Shaw

Keefe: Were you or your loved ones recently hurt in a hit and run by a used car salesman?
Goose: Have you experienced dimensia and bewilderment as a result of a televangelist father figure?

[Shaw walks in the office reading a binder.  Looks up]

Shaw: Have you suffered nausea, vomitting, and stomach pain at the hands of a phony barbecue cook?

[camera turns slowly toward former Packer Darius Holland and former Buck Shawn Respert]

Holland: Have you, your family, or your conference mates been the victim of libel by a rotund charlatan?
Respert: That's right, Darius.  Don't let a thin-skinned bald man pull the hokie-doke on you--call Keefe, Goose, & Shaw at 455-8000, that's 455-8000 [Goose sternly points at the camera].  Let them guide you through your rough times.

[camera zooms out from a bird's eye view as lawyers and athletes stare up at it, Goose still pointing sternly at it]

Gees folks really - you mean more 'narratives' of how this is transpiring - literally all that has been proffered by Goose and keefe is they believe it will be an impact hire and to be patient - the 'updates' you're seeking are coming from all the other bozos just trying to get their rocks off by being listened to (which is weird because for the most part the personas on here are anonymous)

Couldn't agree more. There is stink all over that program and it's only a matter of time.

Let's think about what has/has not happened the last couple days (since Monday), in no particular order...

- New president announcement (with somewhat surprising timing)
- Utter silence from anyone at/associated with Marquette.
- Not even a rumble in 2 days about any other potential candidates.
- Utter silence relative to any other rumors...is the Wake Forest job even still open? Crickets regarding either candidate most here would like.
- A non-denial, denial from VCU's AD - "Shaka Smart is our Men's Basketball Coach."
- not a peep from Smart. When's the last time anyone's seen him?
- a contract the size that Smart, Howland or anyone in that class would require, sure seems like something the BOard and new Prez would need to sign off on, don't you think?

Draw your own conclusions, but I am choosing to conclude that it is likely a deal is in fact "done," but there is an awful lot that needs to be taken care of before anyone gets to know about it (see Monday, and USF if you have questions as to why).

A deal was not done as of 8:45 PM last night. It didn't sound like it was close either, but maybe "close" is a relative term here and things move quicker that it sounded like they would.

From where it is coming from, no.  Now again, I have never been involved in a Division 1 college basketball coaching search, so I don't know how quickly it can go from not being that close to an agreement to having an agreement done.  I'm guessing it can go pretty quickly.  But as of last night there was no agreement (well, at least with Shaka, and I know there was still a list, so I'm assuming if a list is still necessary there isn't a coach who has agreed to take the job).
