Even though GT is down this year, tonight would be a good road win.
Time to go on a run! Starting tonight!

Nice move DWil...keep that going
Let's GO! Great start.
Jake!!!
love it. push the tempo. Buzz even told them that. push the tempo and make the subs when we get tired. don't slow it down
Guy on T.V. noticed it's real hard to enter into the post on Derrick's side cuz they sag on him cuz he is god awful at shooting.
Ox, play some D. Getting schooled early down low on D.

Wow - how bad is Davante on defense?
Seniors have to step up this season.
Otule, though his numbers/averages are a little higher this year, is a shell of himself defensively.
Off GTown, show some O Jamil
Gardner very good at gettin his. Not too good at much else. Not a fan of his makeup.
Who is the color guy in the broadcast booth? Wow...just awful.
If we get outrebounded, this can get ugly.

Gona need the defense to be amazing.
Wow. Ugly game the past 3 mins for both teams.
This is one sloppy game.
Loving the aggressiveness of Mayo.
If starks is going off, we'll definitely be seeing Derrick for 30+. Buzz doesn't have defensive faith in dawson or mayo.
About as ugly as expected for these 2

Nor do I.
MU is an offensive juggernaut with Dawson in there.
Notice mayo n jamil handling it alot ... For a reason
John Dawson in early. Because Derricks gonna have a war with Starks later.
Dawson won't get minutes if he doesn't drain that open 3. Love to see him hit something.
Nice to see Todd being aggressive.
Dawson got quite a bit of tick there...and the offense still sucked.
I'd love to see Mayo and Thomas in together on the wings for a little... go Derrick at the top of the key with the other 2 on the wings and Ox and Wilson down low.... at least once on the wings we'd be able to get it inside pretty easily and deter a lot of the help side defense
Decent at gettin the ball to burton
Keep attacking the rim.
What the hell ? Buzz not doing hockey substitutions tonight?
Dawson might get more minutes...if he doesn't miss open 3s and keep getting layups blocked.
I like Mayo's agressiveness

Horrible officiating thusfar.

Great post D by Jake

This is why Derrick is constantly brought up. Derrick gets lay ups blocked all the time...he wouldn't have missed the three though cuz he wouldn't shoot one.
And it gets uglier.
Need a gif of that JWilson rejection.
Nice energy plays by Juan! Couple of nice boards and a block.
Mrs. legs is screaming for the walk, but I enjoyed he block after the walk.
First one to 30 wins?
great D by jake. great take by juan. terrible layup by juan (airball). great block by juan. terrible 3 by jake (airball, basically). wtf.

As opposed to Dawson's blocked layup? Or Dawson's terrible 3? give me a break. derrick is not good. but dawson doesn't show anything (yet) either.

He looks really good. He's a pretty good passer and they got some good reversals so far with him out there.
I mean this as both a compliment to Jake, but also a testament to MU's struggles.
Jake is the best all around player on this team. Gardner is the by far the best offensive player, but is not good on D. Everyone else is extremely inconsistent.
We play substantially better with Jake on the floor.
Way to knock down the open three frosh
FINALLY something by Dawson!! Big shot!
Bang bang. Dawson for 3!!! Horrible foul call by the ref!!! On the other end.
That's a brutal call.
What a crap call.
Dawson 4 life!! A guard that will shoot when open. 3
At least he has a prayer of a shot going in. And they don't sag 5 feet off of him. And he can pass.
The team does seem to transition on offense a little smoother with the frosh running point IMHO.
I really liked that half. I think both teams are playing stellar D. When we are clicking, we look really good.
Dawson is doing alright. Dumb mistakes but making some good plays
Let's not lose perspective.... Every Georgetown game is an ugly game....it's the style they play.
I'm either seeing some ugly basketball or some great defense.
Regardless, Marquette is winning, so I'm :)
Dawson - 3 pts, 1-3 shooting, 1 assist, 0 rbs, 2pf, 1to.
Derrick - 2 pts, 1-2 shooting, 0 assist, 1 rbs, 1 pf, 0 to.

That foul at the end of the half was just... bad. The offensive player created the contact. This better not be decided by 2 points...
Nice run by Steve. Four boards, two on each end. Is he just getting healthy?

What this says to me is that Dawson is capable at the point. He may not actually be better than Derrick, but he isn't a lot worse. I would like to see a split in minutes of 25/15 Derrick/Dawson, where if either is playing extremely well you let them get even more minutes.
I'm beginning to think if Dawson had more run he might get more comfortable and the freshman mistakes may diminish.
Fracking refs. (that last call prior to the half)

Dawson isn't the second coming, but because his defender can't sag on him, it opens things up for the rest of our team as the passing lanes are more open and it becomes tougher to double our post players.

Jamil has two points, both on free throws and has only taken two shots (missed).
Heck, Anderson has taken four shots, all missed.
Jamil has to step it up here, this bad snap can't continue and no way Anderson should have more attempts in such a limited minutes timeframe.
Gardner is 2 for 4 from field, so your best two players have taken a total of six shots.
Mayo is 1 for 5.

Yes, but in the games Dawson has gotten serious playing time the lines have been similar.
Don't get me wrong, he makes some really bad mistakes, but he does offer more on the offensive end too.
I think 15 minutes a game will allow us to have a run with more offense in there, while giving Derrick some rest so he can be more efficient.
If he is really struggling in a game sit him.

The thing that I don't get is Jamil's mentality..... dude you're a senior and should want to prove you belong in the league yet you only take 2 shots in the half?? If I'm a senior trying to make the league I'm chuckin as a "senior leader" whether shots are there for me or not...
Gardner, twice had Dawson wide open from 3. Instead of kicking it out to the opposite side he tried to keep it on his side. Then forced it into the lane and turned it over.
You have to kick it out to open shooters.

This is probably our best. You get actual spacing and good size down low to bang around.

I love how Taylor is playing, but he has to start putting his hands up when trying to draw a charge. Makes it a little too easy to score if you don't get a charge.
buzz clearly decided tonight to go with whatever lineup/players were playing the best tonight. no matter the starters/minutes/scouting report/practice effort.
i'll be very interested to see if derrick only came in to give dawson a break at 16min
Another turnover by Wilson. ::)

Well to any fan that has paid attention this season it's pretty clear that lineup looks most fluid on offense. As much as I like Todd he doesn't look to pass much. That's why I prefer Jake in there.
We simply do not have an offense with Derrick in the game.
"And they just sag off Wilson knowing he won't shoot"
And "terrible offensive possession by Marquette"

Teams are not gonna defend wilson thats why hes not out there. Like it or not.
Big stretch here for Derrick. Needs to shake off the poor start pronto.
Like the high-low game with Davante and Taylor. Something the Oxtule lineup can't do.
In all seriousness....did Taylor just get healthy enough to play? If he has had this type of effort and effectiveness sitting on the bench all year, Buzz has some 'splainin' to do...
Regardless of whether Dawson or D. Wilson is in, the argument is that the team plays 4 on 5.
With Derrick Wilson, the team plays 4 on 5 on offense - he doesn't drive and/or shoot. Period.
With John Dawson, he gives up a lot defensively - and it costs either himself or teammates fouls by protecting the basket.
Can we just morph them into "Derrick Dawson" - getting Dawson's offense and D. Wilson's defensive experience?

Don't mean to insult, but I think there's more to it than just playing the hot hand. Dawson moves the ball better on offense and Taylor is just as talented as Gardner on the offensive end. I'm not saying that just because of tonight but I've felt this way about Taylor's offensive ability since his first few games as a freshman.
I chalked his limited time to his knee problems....but you're right in that Buzz finally may be giving a nod to the guys not practicing hard. I'm cool with what Buzz tries as he is still learning at this stage. It's just refreshing to see Taylor and Dawson a part of a pretty competent offense. Sorry to respond in that manner.

That's exactly what Buzz is gonna have to figure out how to do. If Dawson is going to be asked to play 25-30 min, he will rarely make it through a game without fouling out, and what he brings offensively, will be negated on the other end. Not an easy task, but Buzz needs to find the right balance (which will likely change game to game).

Derek Wilson.... too much dribbling and it costs MU a possession/foul on Jamil
Biggest difference between the two...Derek dribbles, waits, picks up and finds the easy pass. Dawson gets it out of his hands quickly, making the defense react to ball movement rather than allowing them to settle into assignments.

He is a great ambassador for our school...fully bought in and lots of press on how meaningful things like Buzz's Bunch is to him...no worries about off court issues and his academics are solid. Seems to love MU and I think the feeling will be mutual and strong when he is done.
This team will not win many games, when probably your most talented player, Jamil, does not have a basket 3/4 into the game.
Dawson playing ok, and argue all you want, but come on, this is Duane Wilson's role next year.

terrible shot choice. but, at least jamil wanted it.
Starks is the definition of go-to guy.
MU doesn't have one.
Over the back?
Figures, ball hit the rim

Yep. We sure as heck aren't going to win with Jamil just standing around. We need him to step up if we're going to turn this around.
If they give this ball to GT, I may throw my laptop off my balcony.
If they give the ball to GU I will vomit
They're gonna give it to GT.

A loss bit at least buzz changed things up. Hope for the future...
What a joke this is.
I thought MU had possession when they blew the whistle
might go to GT if they say no one had possession
Nope they're giving it to GT
We're getting screwed here for sure!
Yup....I'm going to go vomit....good night

Yes, we did.
we arguably had posession. they for sure committed over the bck.
Those refs do not deserve even minimum wage.
NCAA officiating is a joke. I know you have to be better, but you can't when its so bad. Its not even a game any more.
"Instant" replay? More like game postponed - referee replay delay.
Huge miss and foul with no time off the clock. Make up call?
Bonehead foul by GT. Last chance....
life? not crossing my fingers
Dont know the name of the gray haired guy, but he should be in a group home.
MU lost? I'm stunned. All we have to do is win the BET. Easy since we can't win a road game. Go Bob Dukiet2.0
Juan and Deonte in as sacrificial lambs lol. And Derrick too.
They got it right, based on the mistake they made blowing the whistle. That was just really stupid to blow it when they did.
Burton for Ox? No juan for the D?
These refs are feeble. BS!!!!!!
YET ANOTHER BLOWN CALL!!!
The 3 refs make their own group home
Refs kind of screwed marquette here
Screwed over again.
This game was taken from us.
no travel. no jump. no out of bounds. garbage.
can we review that?
no worries. chico's book says that the missed traveling calls & timing error doesn't impact the outcome of the game. just like the missed goaltending on gardner's layup doesn't impact it either. read the book. you might like it.
Now THAT, was a terrible call.
So frustrated by the officiating.
This is a farce.
This is unbelievable.
Travel. We were screwed.
The Refs stole this one.
3 ball comin' by Wilson

Now let's kick the crap out of them in OT.

Holy crap. That's pretty impressive considering we are playing 4 on 8.
NFW
The refs screwed us at times, but Jamil doubled dribbled there. Payback............

Come out hungry boys. We are due!
Georgetown forgot to hold the Mayo.
lets hope this OT isn't a Saturday repeat.
it's a new game...
GET THE FUCKING BALL INSIDE
Good shot and board John!
nice john
Dawson all day! GU is shook.
damnit buzz. don't tell them to slow it down!
Did otosclerosis block that? That was huge.
I love me some Ox, but can't he go to the floor, or at least bend his knees to get a loose ball? And then he hits that shot. Like I said, I love me some Ox.
Chris in for the tip and gets it!!
Dawson and Ox!!!
Nice block Davante!
So much energy on this team right now.
Magic Dawson!
JD!!!!

Please see my post on page 13... and all the other threads related to John Dawson being a better offensive option!
But yes, we should play Derrick.
This game is giving me a heart attack....what a shot JD!!!!
Springboard to the Tourney
As maddening as this season has been, enjoyable last 10 minutes here.
i prefer Johnny Basketball
Ok then, In Dawson we Trust!!
Not over yet....
This is the first time i am on pins & needles with this team all year.
Nice to see.
Dawson and Taylor give this team a whole new complexion.
Dude looked like he was about to cry.
I love the freshman not even hesitating.

Defense out of that TO. That's why Buzz just called one himself to get Dawson back in for offense.
3 offensive fouls by Smith-Rivera those last 2 possessions.

And we needed defense there. We had a nice lead, can protect it on D and save Dawson from committing a foul.

Stupid Thomas and his Dick Tracy jaw!
That was off Starks!
Hell of a play by Otule there.
Really impressed with John Dawson's ability to play with 4 fouls for this length of time. He still has ways to go, but I am really liking his development in this game alone.
He's played really, really well.
STAR OF THE GAME JOHN DAWSON!!!!!!!!
Eff Starks
Love the WE ARE MARQUETTE! chant!
That D's mom?
Loving that vintage Miller Lite can.
Jeez even his mom does that stupid chant during a road game?
Chick had big can of Lite.
Nice to hear the MU contingent in the crowd. Surprised we haven't heard them earlier, since GT looks to have about 87 non-students there.
Heard some we r marquette just beforehand that automatic chant
Momma Gardner struttin' her stuff
From now on, respect JD and what he brings to our team. FRESH-MEN!

Well, except for the totally clutch jumper, he did not play especially well tonight.
Buzz gave Dawson the minutes and he delivered what we needed. Derrick gave his best in his limited minutes which is exactly what we wanted. It makes a big difference playing 5v5.Now we need JJJ to get healthy and STJ to stay healthy and we are back in the hunt . All the kids showed up tonight and played hard and well.
I hope ST's knee is not swelled up tomorrow. He looked great tonight. Really like him and DG doing the high-low post thing. :)

How bout that Dawson Kid!

He really never looks happy. I think he is frustrated with his game tonight. Yes he hit the big shot, but he likely knows he didn't play well the rest of the game. Mayo has always seemed like a guy that lives inside his head sometimes. He is likely replaying his performance in his head and is unhappy with it and probably wanted some more time in OT to continue to make up for it.
