I heard through the grape vine that when Notre Dame plays Marquette, MU may introduce the Manti' Te'o Kiss Cam. *This is hear say through fellow MU grad students
I guess the Cleveland Caviliers did this in their last home game.
The joke is when a guy has nobody sitting next to him there going to show his mug on the "Manti Te'o Kiss Cam" Clever if you ask me. I hope MU does it!
Classless.
Yeah, it's only been a week, but the whole Te'o thing has gotten old.
I really don't see this happening.
Its cool with all the minor league teams making Te'o nights, but I would think Marquette is above this especially with a fellow Catholic school.
There should not be anything from the university or the arena. The student section, however, is probably obligated to do something.
Clever but the ND game is over 5 weeks away. This story will likely be old news by then.

1. Observe other teams, schools, leagues come up with new material
2. Wait months/years for material to become stale
3. Use material
4. Congratulate themselves on a job well done
Who was the last famous person to have an imaginary girlfriend?
Answer, Barack Obama. In his book "Dreams of my Father" the girlfriend he described did not exist. He explained it away as it being a composite of all his girlfriends.

While I do not expect Marquette employees to get into this, doing something like that would not be classless at all. The guy had a fake girlfriend who he claimed to have died in order to get more publicity and pity and "look at how strong he is, playing through 2 personal tragedies in 1 day to honor such great people" so that he could increase the likelihood that he wins the Heisman Trophy. Even if he TRULY knew NOTHING about the fact that she wasn't a real person (he did, which is why his dad talked about meeting her, different accounts of when the 2 met, etc. etc. etc.), he continued to tell media his/her story on December 8th and 11th, yet he claims he found out it was a hoax on December 6th. That makes sense...
Manti T'eo is classless. The jokes that he gets for his actions are what he deserves.

Boo-hoo Notre Dame. I would like someone to explain why it is classless to poke fun at a rival who lied to the public like this. Newsflash--THE GIRLFRIEND DIDN'T DIE! THERE WAS NO GIRLFRIEND!! It's not like we are making fun of a dead person. Are you afraid someone's feelings might get hurt because they were a sucker? Boo-hoo.
Have at it, I say. I just might get one of those T-shirts.

Yeah, because over the summer he organized the hoax to get a true defensive player into the Heisman race. I'm sure he was thinking, hey, I've made one interception in my career to date, but I think I plan on intercepting 7 this year - an unheard of number for an inside linebacker - and really get my name in the mix. Plus, even though ND has lost at least 5 games my first three years, and our QB situation is a mess, I really think we're going to run the table and go undefeated this season and get to the BCS title game, which will also increase my chances to get in the Heisman race. Oh, and even better yet, wouldn't it be awesome if my grandmother died during the season to gain some sympathy? And let's go even further and create a fake girlfriend that I'll lie about to garner even more sympathy that will for sure put me in the Heisman race 3 games into the season.
Come on man, there's not enough pot in the world to make up such an elaborate hoax "to garner sympathy" for the Heisman voters. The guy got scammed.

Explain how poking fun at Manti T'eo is classless? If he truly had no knowledge of it being anything besides a sincere relationship then why did his parents talk about them meeting in 2009? Why did he say they met after they played at Stanford? Why is he still answering questions about her AFTER he knew it was a "hoax?" Why is his own teammate telling the media that he overhyped it all, that he knew she was never a girlfriend, that he played it all up for the attention, etc. I'm not saying people need to rip on him, but to claim they are the classless people is flat out wrong. Like it was brought up before, nobody was hurt or died in the situation. There was no sexual assault, no murder, no life ruined. Nobody who is poking fun of him is a sick human being. The sick human being is the person who, at the very least, played along with a story about somebody he "loved" dying.

My opinion on what happened (take it for whatever its worth).... he actually got hoaxed, but years ago, found out about it, and didn't bother telling anyone about it because he was kinda embarrassed. Then as ND's biggest game of the year rolls around (against Michigan State) Te'o and Tuisasopo (or however you spell it) decide to take it a little further and she "coincidentally" "dies" on the same day as his grandmother.
After reading another article about the girl he actually dated right after his fake girlfriend died (http://www.playerwives.com/miscellaneous-sports/ncaa/manti-teos-real-girlfriend-alexandra-del-pilar/) I'm not buying it. Here is the star of ND's defense, pretty much has his picking from that school, and he dates someone online for 3 years and never meets her? Not buying it.

Making fun of Mayo for academics? How do you even compare these two stories, Te'o is garbage, and Mayo struggles academically and always has. Not sure i see any resemblance. That's like making fun of special needs kids, or students who struggles to read.
Making fun of Vander for punching Joe Skino is fair game. He shouldn't have done that. I wouldn't find it offensive at all.

According to the original post, it was alleged that MU would be responsible. Thus, "This sums up my expectations of MU (and their marketing dept.)."
For all those saying that Teo is "garbage", "classless", and whatever else you want to call him, would it have made a difference if the Deadspin story didn't have the line where a friend of the guy who sprang the hoax tells the authors that he is "80 percent sure that Teo was in on it"? When questioned on it, the authors say they have no evidence and they are just going on the one guy's take who wasnt even involved in it.
There is not a shred of evidence that Teo was in on it, the guy who pulled it off says that Teo was not a part of the hoax, the same guy who fooled Teo has scammed 2 other people before like this, there are over 110 calls over an hour long from Teo to the number of what he thought was a real girl (quite a phone bill to pull off the scam on Teo's part), Teo's Bishop in the Mormon church says he talked to her, many of his teammates talked to her, and his parents talked to her. He has admitted to lying to his dad about actually meeting her at the Stanford game (and no, his dad never said he met her) because he was embarrassed he met her online and had never actually met her. Should he have admitted he got scammed at the Heisman trophy presentation 2 days after he received the phone call from her number on Dec. 6? Maybe, but think of how that would have come across - think Manziel would have liked being the 2nd story after his own win? Should he have told the media before the BCS game? Maybe, but think about the distraction that would have caused preparing for the game.
Again, how was a defensive player going to use a story like this to win the Heisman? Overcoming his grandmother's death was enough of a story - he didn't need a dead girlfriend to embellish it. He never would have even been considered without the 7 interceptions - which increased his career total to 8 by the way - and more than 110 tackles, both unheard of for an inside linebacker. He also could never have counted on an undefeated season going into the BCS game, Matt Barkley playing like crap, Denard Robinson playing mediocre, and many other pre-season Heisman hopefuls - of which he was not one - not playing up to Heisman standards. Heck, he didn't even come that close to Manziel who won the race pretty much after A&M beat Alabama.
So Teo could have been more forthcoming after Dec.6 or Dec. 26, but that does not make him garbage or classless, it makes him embarrassed for being duped.

If real Gramma dying got Te'o into a dead heat with Manzel and imaginary girlfriend dying put him over the top in Pete Thamel's mind it says a lot - about Pete Thamel.
MU shouldn't, and won't have any involvement. It would actually be kind of a letdown if the students didn't do anything. Doubt it'll rival "Where's my laptop!" but it could surpass the "trailer trash" chants Devendorf got.

OK, let's pretend that T'eo had no idea he was being duped. Let's pretend he really believed he was talking to a real girl and he really believed that she died of lukemia the same day that his grandmother died. Let's then read this article:
http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/8854472/teammate-manti-teo-says-player-played-girlfriend-angle
Does that make Manti T'eo worse than if he had participated in a story about a fake person who died? The guy used the death of someone he believed to be a real person to increase his publicity. He loved the spotlight, pointing himself out when he was on TV to his teammates and friends. He, and his teammates, knew that the person (who they believed to be real) was not nearly T'eo's girlfriend, but T'eo saw an opportunity to look strong, took the story, and he ran with it. He used the DEATH of somebody he believed to be a real person to put a bigger spotlight on himself. That is sick. Disgusting. Sad. Disturbing.
Think what you want Wade, I'm not going to change your mind, but would you tell that to Teo himself? In person? Would you tell him he is sick and disgusting and a piece of garbage? Or is it only in the safety of an anonymous online message board that you are willing to cast dispersions on a person?
And one anonymous teammate's claim is enough to satisfy your doubts? What about all the other teammates who called out that guy and have come to Teo's defense? Do their voices or opinions count? Not to you. Go ahead and think the worst of Teo if that makes you feel better. I just hope you and nobody in you family ever gets scammed by any con men.

Wow, you're right. This guy totally deserves public mockery and humiliation from a Catholic institution of higher learning. He's so disgusting that I wish Marquette could come up with more ways to publicly humiliate him. Fake big heads and kiss cams just isn't enough. Maybe we could get him free courtside seats to a game then show him on the jumbotron while everyone cheers, and just when he stands up to wave to the crowd, Larry Williams could dump pigs blood on him from the rafters. THAT would show him!
Seriously Wades, your vitriol directed at a 22 year old that, AT WORST, made up a fake girlfriend to improve his fake relationship with the media and fans, is more disgusting to me than anything Teo did. His fake girlfriend simply provides a reflection of the fake relationship we have with athletes and celebs. That is the only reason you or anyone else could be truly mad and disgusted by his actions; because his situation shattered the illusion. Go live your life and stop getting all lathered up about some other dude's fake girlfriend.

His draft position will change when the NFL teams hire real investigators to do real investigations, unlike Notre Dame.
So PTM, since you know it all, what will the real NFL investigators find out, that we all don't know about. Since, after all, you seem to have the great insight into this case and have assured yourself that a person you have never met is "a piece of crap and deserves everything he gets."

His draft status was hurt more by his performance in the NCG than anything having to do with his fake dead girlfriend. If he had "played like a champion" in the Bama game, he could have killed his actual girlfriend and he still would have gone in the top 5. Some fans will likely spin this story into being the reason he slides in the draft but the truth is, he's not nearly as good as his hype.

If he has questionable character, down. He's not going to be a stellar linebacker. He's too small with questionable speed. 4-3 teams will look at him for middle play between the hashes.
His character and leadership were his highest traits. Those were currently out the window.

There is absolutely no doubt that T'eo's draft status has already declined due to this, and it will only continue to do so as more evidence comes out/it becomes more clear just how ridiculous of a human being Manti T'eo is.

There's a lot of former GMs out there saying he has to have great answers at the combine to make up for the scandal and lackluster performance.
I agree that Alabama will hurt him more.

I do agree with this, though.
His draft status may drop, though it may drop just based on his play on the big stage of Alabama as well. Will we ever know what is the reason? The draft if an inexact science anyway...Aaron Rodgers vs Alex Smith?
So we'll never truly know.
As for someone that is dating another person in a few weeks, hardly the first time or the last time that will ever happen. Especially if it is a long distance relationship. Look how many people "love" someone and cheat on them, but still love them.
I hope the Bears are stupid and draft him at 20. He will be available.

But do they "dedicate their (undefeated) season" to them? It was a cute storyline and Manti knew it and made it known to everyone he possibly could. Too bad it was a fake story and now even more people know.
Wouldn't be surprised to see him go anywhere from 15 to 35. Depends on if teams are drafting on need or best player.
It's one thing to get scammed.
It's another thing to scam the entire college football audience for your own personal gain.

Before the girlfriend incident, where was he projected? I've read somewhere between 10 and 12. So if he goes near 15 to 20, is that really a "drop" this is a highly inexact process.

His draft position will change when the NFL teams hire real investigators to do real investigations, unlike Notre Dame.
You mean ND's investigation that was literally: http://bit.ly/W162ig

I don't get all the love for the kid. He was a good college linebacker, but I just don't see his skills and speed translating that well to the pro game. He is not of ideal size either. I don't know, I just don't see it. I'm probably wrong though.

Disgusting. Sad. Disturbing.
I had never read that article before, and one thing I find veerrrrryyyy interesting is near the end....
"Dan Tudesco, a 2006 graduate who now works in public relations in New York, set up an online account at fundraising website indiegogo.com on Jan. 9 to solicit $5,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Inc. The initial pitch said donations would go to the society in memory of Lennay Kekua and in honor of Te'o, "two individuals who have been an inspiration to us through an iconic season."
Tudesco said he and three friends got the fundraising idea after seeing a video that went viral of Te'o holding his head in dismay during the Irish's 42-14 loss to Alabama in the national championship game.
The goal was to turn the loss -- and the player's sudden popularity -- into something positive.
"I think we were all kind of disappointed in the result of the game ... and the Manti story was very inspirational," Tudesco told The Associated Press on Thursday.
Notre Dame took notice of Tudesco's tweets about the fund drive and sent a university videographer to shoot an interview with him. The video was posted on the Notre Dame athletics YouTube channel Tuesday.
Tudesco said he didn't believe Notre Dame was aware of the hoax when it promoted his fundraiser.
"It would surprise me that Notre Dame would want to promote this if they knew something like this was going on," Tudesco said.
However, Notre Dame officials said Wednesday that they became aware of the hoax on Dec. 26, nearly two weeks before the championship game. University spokesman Dennis Brown didn't immediately respond to a request seeking comment Thursday."
So, ND finds out about the hoax on Dec 26, then after the national championship game on Jan 7, sends out a university videographer to interview someone who are raising money for Te'o's fake dead girlfriend. Why would they do that?

Living up to the ND arrogance stereotype, the admin didn't think that word of the fake girlfriend would ever get out.

Classless.
This idea is so unoriginal, uninspired and classless it's embarrassing. It also was never proposed by the Marquette marketing dept. they can't be that idiotic.
Can we please stop reinforcing the negative stereotype that Marquette is just "some school in Milwaukee." Let's act with some class and dignity.

If real Gramma dying got Te'o into a dead heat with Manzel and imaginary girlfriend dying put him over the top in Pete Thamel's mind it says a lot - about Pete Thamel.
No doubt. Thamel even backed it up with a little chuckle.
I was really surprised at how cavalier he was when he said that. Patrick didn't let up but he also didn't grill him on that. Thought it was a slip and would've loved more discussion on it.

You sound like a Dayton fan.
Marquette is just a school in Milwaukee. Middle of the road, nothing special. Sorry to burst your bubble. If anything, you need to stop reinforcing the negative stereotype that Marquette is 'full of braggarts and self-indulgent asshats'.

We agree. And if he does "drop", is it because of this, is it because maybe he simply wasn't as good as advertised? Very inexact process that will become more inexact as draft orders change, as a player supposed to go high drops, or a player supposed to go lower suddenly is picked up creating a domino effect.
In all honesty, if you look at some of the brainiacs that have been taken over the years very high, it's hard to see how this really hurts him considering some of the incredibly stupid things some people have done prior to the draft.
Projecting this guy in the top 10 was always insane. He looked fine against mid-tier Big 10 teams, but got destroyed by Alabama...a team packed with NFL-ready talent.
He's too small...too slow...has questionable LB instincts...and clearly has mental and emotional issues. Stay far away.

I guess it could drop him a little if enough GMs think this is a sign of, at the very least, big time immaturity. Every year guys make significant moves up or down GM's wish lists just prior to the draft. Just as often as not (or so it seems to me) the moves are unwarranted.
I don't watch a whole lot of college football, but Te'o seems a little small for MLB and/or a little slow to play on the outside. All those missed tackles in the Alabama game probably didn't help his stock either.
Yep, he struggled in the Bama game - as did most of the Irish defense. However, the announcers also noted that coming into the game, Teo had missed exactly 2 tackles all season long. The producers went through every play Teo was in on during the regular season and counted two times where he should have made the tackle but the guy got past him. That is pretty damn impressive. Actually, even if he drops because of the Bama game or the controversy, it'll probably take some pressure off the kid and might help him focus and practice that much harder.

That might be the most pathetic spin I have seen on his performance. He was constantly blocked, run over, and got mixed up in the traffic on what is the closest thing to an NFL line that he has seen. Furthermore, and I say this seen a number of ND games this year, he really isn't blessed with great speed.
AJ Hawk, who looks like a plant in the NFL, was a fast college linebacker at Ohio State. Te'o doesn't look nearly as fast as Hawk did in college.

Not trying to spin his bad game - just pointing out he had a good season prior to the Bama game. Maybe he wont pan out in the NFL - lots of good college players don't. We'll see where he is drafted and how he performs on the big stage.

Before all the Heisman hype I had been hearing he was a 3rd rounder anyways. Most scouts thought he didnt have the lateral movement to be a stud MLB on the next level. The first round and dropping stuff seems to be from the hype, not the projection.
