Is "Beano" the bull going to be there.  Better yet, the Dallas Cowboy or Univ of Texas cheerleaders?

For those going, look for ZFB. He'll be the cat with bib overalls, barbwire tatoo, stash of Skoal, and new sheetkickers on.

Skoal? What is he, a yuppy? I think Rooster, Wolf or Kayak would be more appropriate.
But I like to throw handfuls...

ZiggysFryBoy

ZFB doesn't chew.  EA doesn't like it.  I will be sporting my new bolero tie though.

Does anyone know how many people are signed up?   I have been out of town and going to sign up on Tuesday.

Hopefully, the weather will be great and we can ride our Harleys down to campus.

Whoa .. Buzz Williams just "called" me and invited me to this event.

Go Buzz!!!

He personally invited me to the BBQ and called me out challenging me to ride the mechanical bull.

He was so determined to get me there he wouldn't even let me get a word in.

TVDirector

jeez... the nerve of the guy calling me during my 1st graders poetry reading.

nice invite for the MU hoops BAR-B-Q, though.

back to budding Ezra Pounds.

chapman

He sure seemed nice on the voicemail I got.  I would have answered, but I don't answer calls from "Unknown".  He should get that fixed in case recruits screen their calls too.

Is that the determination that you slowly begin to like as a recruit? :-X

Seriously, I like getting messages like that as a season ticket holder, even though it probably only took him 20 seconds to record.

I hope he doesn't use taped recordings with recruits!

that's all he uses, actually.  That and form letters with typos that were hand copied on legal sized paper that was cut to be close to letter sized.  Plus he has Rawdog sign them for him in crayon too.   ::)

The Drill: Q&A with Buzz Williams
Posted: June 24, 2008
June is traditionally a quiet time in the world of college basketball. Not so for Buzz Williams. A little less than three months into his tenure as Marquette University's men's basketball coach, he has been keeping busy landing recruits, rounding out his support staff and overseeing the youth basketball camp that bears his name at the Al McGuire Center. Today, Williams adds host to his list, as MU throws a Texas-style barbecue from 5 to 9 tonight in the Central Mall behind the Raynor Library. More than 1,500 tickets have already been sold to the event, which will come complete with line dancing and a mechanical bull and feature all of the Golden Eagles' returning players, plus Williams and most of his staff. Here's what Williams had to say about the event Tuesday in an interview with Golden Eagles beat writer Todd Rosiak:

Q. Since you're a Texas native, what constitutes a Texas-style barbecue?

A. A true Texas barbecue is lots of cowboy hats, lots of boots and lots of brisket.

Q. You've been awfully busy since being hired. Do you look at this as a good opportunity to meet and greet fans whom you might not have been able to yet?

A. I'm very grateful that we're having it. I think the best thing about it is that our players will be there. They'll be able to mingle with the 1,500 to 2,000 people that show up, and it'll be another example of the passion for our institution and our program. I'm glad that our players are going to be able to be a part of it. I think that it's beneficial not only for the alumni, the boosters and the fans that are going to be there to connect with our staff, but also for our staff to be able to connect with them. I think it'll be a great four hours.

Q. Should people expect you to show up complete in a cowboy hat and boots?

A. (laughs) I'm 35 years old, I've lived in Texas 25 of those 35 years and, honestly, I've never owned a pair of cowboy boots or a cowboy hat. I grew up in the country, lived on a farm, but never had any boots or a hat.

Q. Will you give the mechanical bull a try?

A. I have to observe and get a scouting report on it. I hope we have enough participants to have a scouting report. I don't know if I'm strong enough to hold on.

Daniel

Sounds like fun - I'm driving up from Chicago for it - looking forward to it!

Go BUZZ!!  GO MARQUETTE!!!

Mayor McCheese

the man sounds like someone I could have a few beers with and tell some jokes...

some of his answers are pretty comical, especially the scouting report on the mechanical bull.

Well, yeah, but we've had one of those types before, and it wasn't a pretty situation at the end of the day.

Doubt that you could categorize Buzz with Deane..  different personalities.

Wish I could go...
Could someone post scouting report on mechanical boll tomorrow?

Nobody ever had just a "few" beers with Mike Deane.
