I realize it is behind us, but if Tanning Cream communicated with Doc about his plans to leave I would have thought Doc would have contacted Fr. Wild.  In such a conversation between Cream and Doc I would sure think the question would come up, "does Marquette know?"  If this is true and Doc didn't communicate it I certainly think less of Doc Rivers especially being on the BOT.

Also, is there any indication who is initiating the current (daily?)calls between Buzz and coach two-faces?

I've never understood why Rivers is on the board of trustees. Because he's a basketball coach?

If it wasn't for the Celtics trades this past off season, he'd be unemployed.

Marquette_g

I can't believe I'm going to do this...

His kid didn't even come here to play. He is at Gtown. Real loyalty. Perhaps he should be on Gtowns BOTs.

PuertoRicanNightmare

I don't even mind that his kid didn't go here...he's got to be his own person...but Rivers was a good -- not great -- player at MU and has had some good -- not great -- success in the NBA.

Why not put Maurice Lucas on the BOTs? Exactly what is the difference? Both left school early and both are life long NBA guys. Or how about Jim Boylan?

I'm kidding about Lucas and Boylan, but how is their situation different than Rivers?

What's this, Crean told Rivers he was leaving before talking to Cottingham and Wild?

I agree that Jeramiah needed to go to another school.  He needed to establish his own identity.  Going to his father's school would have put an undue burden on him.

Why is Rivers on the BOT?  Because was a good student (I was in some of his classes and he really did try) and he graduated despte leaving early.  And, he was interested.  Have Lucas and/or Boylan expressed an interest?  Has D-Wade expressed an interest?  Has he graduated yet?  How about Len Kasper?

Ulice Payne expressed an interest and  he's on the BOT as well.

You need a brain to be on the board of trustees not be a basketball.  So why is Doc on again . . because he made a lot of money.  Personally, I would get rid of him and use the TC excuse and breaching his role as a trustee as the reason for termination.  But he might make a lot of money in the future and we all know MU is starved for cash given that their endowment fund is a joke.

Doc has a brain so he's qualified by your standard.

You need a functioning brain and the ability to think objectively and independently of any group-think mentality that could ensue.  I thought Doc was on the board be because he 'tried hard' in his classes.  In addition, you are suppose to be looking out for the school ... I thought Doc did a great job I really did.

The "unanimous" vote on "Gold" indicates objective thinking and an aversion to "group think" are not requirements.

PRN you are correct but lets not forget that the school in Milwaukee.  So all of us  'normal folks' that have moved out of MKE knew it would be a terrible decision but the BOT sure as hell didn't because they were in their own little world . . . Milwaukee.

4everwarriors

I think the 3 Stooges, Barney, Big Bird, and Clarabell are all on the BoT as well with their collective heads up their collective asses.

I remember Doc partying with Majerus on campus his junior year ( before leaving to go pro) and being a good student. As Head Coach of an NBA team involved in a championship run, I am a little concerned that his primary focus was not necessarily on conducting a thorough coaching search for MU and am not happy with the way that the BOT arrived at their decision. However, it is a done deal and Buzz deserves support from the fans and alums, even those of us who wish a more thorough, longer process had taken place before a hire was made.

Lucas would have stepped in by now and said "enough of this crap"...

To clarify, Doc was not on the board during the "Gold" debacle.

That said, your point is valid -- anybody know how anything gets done with 35 members on the board?

Wait, there are 35 people on the board and 'Gold' was unanimous?  ... something in my head just broke.  I've never seen 35 people agree on an obvious good idea.

Lucas walks in the room and they all start to shake. Sits down and they all say "Good morning sir"  Lucas stares and says "Enough of this crap, heres what we do..."  That my friend is a man.

BTW, let Doc's son Jeremiah go to Georgetown, lets go after his son, Austin, who is twice as good as a freshman in HS.

ZiggysFryBoy

I think Kevin and Andy from the Office should be on the BOT too.  Great negotiating skills by those guys to get their parking spots back.

Tums Festival

Better Doc than some of the stiffs that haven't given anything at all back to the university.

Money is not the reason Doc is on the Board.  There are plenty of other Board members that have MUCH more of it than Doc.

warthogdriver

I do think they need some stones on the BOT - large, pendulous, swinging brass ones. Pretty lame group as recently constituted.

They probably have an executive committee that does most of the actual decision making.  My guess is that committee meets often while the full board only meets quarterly.  (I might be wrong.)

Why was Doc chosen?  He's smart, has money, loves Marquette, is a visible alumnus...and brings diversity.  He's young and he's black.
