if the prick has already or will ever complete his soccer field donation pledge? I somewhat remember hearing he was going to cough up 20k/year for 5 years. I doubt we'll ever see the scratch.

How can you say that when he clearly held a press conference to encourage other donations?

butchbadger

Excellent question ;)

I have the answer but no proof.  Makes the Jamil recruiting very interesting...

Dave and Chris love interesting recruiting stories.

If you strike out with those two, you might want to try Keith Gill  kgill@ncaa.org

They wouldn't need to be involved. You are going down the wrong path.

Well they would need this thing called proof, and with you that's definitely going down the wrong path.

butch can speak for himself, but I interpret his comments as implying that if Crean doesn't follow through on his pledge of the $100k soccer donation, it could negatively affect Crean's recruitment of Wilson.  Nothing to do with NCAA violations.

lurch91

Especially if Crean is trying to show every one of his recruits he's a man of his word.

Oh I get it clearly....of course earlier last week he also implied that the donation wasn't because Crean was an employee of Marquette, didn't have a relationship with Roeders and Louis Bennett, wasn't doing it as a favor to the university, but basically only to gain favor with this recruit.

That was his implication along with a few others he's had mostly on their board where he applies one standard of posting but chastizes people here for doing the same thing.   ::)

If it was a verbal pledge, then forget it. If it was in writing, then that's a different matter.

But, it could be used as "he pledged but didn't follow through" as proof that he's a smooth-talking pimp.

I don't follow. What does the donation have to do with Jamil Wilson?

Wade for President

Wilson's looking to be a 2 sport athlete.  The soccer stadium would be a huge selling point.

I am not 100% sure but I do believe he will owe MU the 100K, verbal pledges to charities are enforcecable

A court will enforce a pledge of a gift to a charitable organization, for example, if the organization has justifiably relied on the pledge by committing the expected funds even though the charity did not promise or give anything in return (other than "thank you"), i.e. even though there was no deal.  In summary, some but not all agreements and deals are contracts (i.e. they include promises that the law will enforce) and some contracts are not the result of deals or agreements.

I don't think that's an issue with him... if I remember correctly he played volleyball at Horlick. Volleyball and soccer are in the same season.

The guy that is the main donor for the soccer stadium who has been trying to get support for this for awhile, just happens to be the guy that started Jamil Wilson's AAU team.

I work in charitable giving and verbal pledges are not enforceable.  According to accounting standards you can't even put them on your books.  Written pledges of this size are barely enforceable too.  For a multi-million dollar project such as this, a $100K pledge is a drop in the bucket.  It can be hard to argue that MU substantially relied on this pledge.

And we will never find out if he stuck to it either.

There are a lot of bitter MU alums/boosters (with good reason).  It will come out, but it is touchy.  Judas is Judas, after all. And this a no win for him.

Yeah...I was kidding about Wilson playing soccer.  Although....Marcus West did play both.  Man, that guy had wheels.

Aren't we talking small change and a tax deduction for someone making the kind of money he's making?  Not following through would cost him that much and more in bad PR.  If he follows through on the donation he gets positive PR from salivating media types across the country.  "A man of class and commitment."  It would pay for itself.

Yes.  He co-founded the Playground Warriors program in 1991.  Jamil plays for Playground Elite, which is the 17U off shoot of the Playground Warriors program.

No we don't and no you aren't.....conjecture is not proof.  No one has come out and said he didn't pony up the cash or prove anything.

Oh and be careful your don't break your shoulder blade with all this patting yourself on the back ::)
