I'm trying to piece this together.  I've heard (unconfirmed) that Marquette received a verbal commitment today.

There's a thread on Scout's premium board entitled "good news for MU".  This thread was started by a Providence board owner.

Common MU & Providence recruits?  Damian Saunders

Since he visited last weekend.  Makes sense.  I'll update to confirm or deny the rumor as I find out more info.  Stay tuned...

OK, I got an e-mail warning me that if I was stealing this from the scout board, that IWB and Dodds would be pissed, and that it would go against building a good relationship with them.

I want to be VERY clear on this!  I heard this morning that there may be a commitment - with no details.  So I set off to do some sleuthing.  I went off to check  IWBs premium board (for which, even guests can see the topics).

The top post on the "good news..." was from "SteveHartnett"...and a simple google search provides his Providence connection.

I had posted the article on Saunders when his visit was discussed, so I knew the providence connection with that recruit.

So, this is all based on my own speculation and sleuthing after hearing of a commitment.  By all means, PLEASE go and sign up for IWBs premium board.  That's not where my detailed info is coming from though.

Thanks for the link.  At least now I can confirm it's a rumor  :-\.  I've got an e-mail off to Rosiak to see if he can get the scoop.

this would be a really interesting signing for TC if the rumor plays out ... talk about a complete remake of the roster, and of the types of bigs that MU is pursuing:  TC moves from Kinsella, MJackson or Barro to a wave of 6'7" - 6'9" athletes who can run and defend away from the basket, and likely have offensive games that are more suited for an up-tempo style of play (which likely means less proficiency with their backs to the basket).

I like where Crean is going with this team... I like the recruiting movement to athletic bigs (Trend, Lazar, Trevor, Hazel, & Saunders).  We might be able to get a dominant big man to get 12 boards a game but were getting a lot of athletes that will be able to reboung all over the floor.  This group is starting to resembe in my eyes the Cinci teams of old.  Those Cinci teams were contending in the tourney every year!  From all accounts I have read, Saunders is an athletic scorer and rebounder who can play the 4.  No offense to Hazel but i'm much more excited by the potential of Saunders.  I really hope this comes through for MU - we can always figure out the scholly situation later.

1) I am concerned about the scholarship situation.  I mean somebody HAS to go (or...not show up) if we do get another recruit for 07.

but...

2) I've received yet another confirmation of "Nothing yet" - which means this all may be wrong anyway.  We'll see...

Chili

this is the way big boys play...you have to over recruit now. sink or swim.
But I like to throw handfuls...

I would prefer that we don't lose anyone next year.  I am hoping this is a conditional scholarship and Saunders is willing to wait it out until spring.

maybe he said "heck with it - I REALLY think this is the best school out there and the best basketball program to boot - I don't care if I have to walk-on for a year, I'm going THERE!"

Don't wake me up.. I like this dream..  ;D

I like that dream too.

I like what Crean is doing by continuing to recruit despite the lack of scholorship.  There are so many reasons why one could open up by the start of next season.

Unfortunately, the most probable reason would be James going pro.  We'll see.
