in Chicago, they're going to do a story on Sportsnite after Bulls Postgame about Marquette preparing for the tourney. There are no Illinois teams in this year, so apparently MU has more Chicago kids than any other school in the tournament.

that is amazing, especially considering the # of D1 teams in IL.

Sportsnite starts at 10:00 P.M. CST if you are wondering.

I don't have my tv recording software here so I recorded it straight from my camera.  Sorry for the quality. You may have to turn up the sound.

Add in Trend and there are five from Illinois.  WWLS--"What would Len (Elmore) Say"

They accounted for Trend.  he just wasn't in the interview.

McNeal, Acker, Blackledge, and Brice

+ Ooze---Julian HS in Chicago is the fourth from Chi.  Trend is downstate (Carbondale)

I didn't see the piece and I hate to split hairs, but Oooze is the only "real" Chicago player on our team and he's just a transplant. McNeal lists himself as being from Chicago, but both he and Acker went to the same high school, Hillcrest High School in Country Club Hills, IL. Blackledge is from Carbondale I think.

Anyone who grew up in Chicago knows the importance of the Chicago vs. Suburbs distinction.

In the piece, they actually did refer to them as Chicago-land players, not Chicago players.

Miltown, you must be one of those Beverly guys who throws down anytime a Naperville kid claims to be from Chicago.

No, I'm actually from the burbs, not too far from where Jerel and Acker were playing their H.S. ball. I would never say I'm from Chicago. I'm from the burbs, no shame in that. My statement was stated with a bit of sarcasm as I know many of the hardcore Chicago types you speak about. Beverly guys are bad, but don't forget about the Rogers Park, Edgewater, Sauganash kids. Although now I can say I live in Chicago, since I have been a resident for 8 years now.

I never thought I would see a Rogers Park Reference on a Marquette board, long live the PARK!

Hilarious, I'm friends with a guy who went to MU with me who is from Beverly and even though I'm from the burbs, he would get so riled up if I said I was from Chicago (only because I didn't expect people not from Chicago to recognize my burb)

Great references MilTown and Damon, nicely done!

What's funny is that Beverly and Rogers Park are two of the farthest points of the city. Off the top of my head, I want to say at least 8-10 miles north/south of state and madison. I think thats about right. Beverly is techincally Chicago, but it is pretty suburban to me. RP has a more urban feel.

If I remember my Chicago history correctly, beverly wasn't even part of the original city limits until sometime around the worlds fair. It was annexed later after the local government went bankrupt or they just flat out sold to chicago. I think Chicago was trying to increase population figures and kept taking over the surrounding municipalities.

My wife is from Mokena and when I told her my friend was from Beverly, she had said she never heard of that suburb. I told her it was in the city, and she didn't believe it. You're exactly right, it feels like Oak Park or Lake Forest, you'd never ever think you were in Chicago proper.

It's beautiful and super expensive. It's like Bizarro Cabrini Green, you'd never think from the areas all around it that a place like that would be there.

Good call.  I forgot about Ooze.  I just considered him from Senegal.

TallTitan34

Also I love how they say Chicago should cheer for Marquette in the tournament since no Illinois school is in the tournament.

How about Chicago shows the damn game then!

rugbydrummer

Yeah, who cares about the Boilermakers?!?!  Seriously-- if the Chi Trib is covering us, shouldn't CBS be taking that into consideration?  Ughhhhhhh

Anyone want to meet up in Lake County, IL, somewhere????
