I remember buying 4 packs of Goebel beer (they were once 6 packs, but for some reason they would sell them without the other 2 beers in the plastic holder) from Danny's Foods at... 17th and Wisconsin was it?  Across from Humphrey, around the corner from Ziggy's I believe.

Also, here is a good Ziggy's story... not only did his pipe-ash fall in your burger, his digusting, sweaty chest hair would fall of in there too.  My buddy with a goatee used to go there alot, Ziggy liked to say "HEYGGGH, Dr. Zhivago!  Double cheeseburger?"  The best was when he used to charge 5 cents for each extra ketchup packet you asked for...

Sometimes we would dine in, and listen to him tell stories from his Merchant Marine days, they would pretty good stories actually...

Danny's (or was it Dany's) is a great spot.  Incredibly convenient for picking up beer to bring to O'D on your way back from campus.

Pick up the Busch Light at the store on 17th, covertly transfer the beer to your backpack in one of the alleys between the store and the dorm, and confidently stroll into O'Donnell with a ton of cans in your backpack.  They had to know, right?

That store is definitely the malt liquor headquarters - Steel Reserve, Boone's Farm, pick your poison, it's back on the shelf.

It's still there, right?

They certainly did. I was a DR at Schroeder for 2 years. If I knew someone was bringing booze into the dorm (and I knew a fair number of Schroeder residents) I either ignored it or checked their bag with the express purpose of critiquing their purchase. May have been the best 2 years of employment of my life.

Ahh, Steel Reserve, wasn't it like 8% alcohol content?  All i remember about it was that the last 3-6 oz were a little rough to put down but when you're a poor college student it doesn't get any better than that...

jaybilaswho?

i think it is still there. buying beer there on fridays freshmen year was a 100% absolute. But what i loved buying from there were the microwavable burritos. They were the best on a friday or something walking back from class. You jsut stop in put 75 cents on the counter, take the burrito home and in 1 1/2 minutes... linner (lunch/dinner snack).

hey, isnt it still  "DANY'S" ..... one 'n'

The home of my first 40oz purchase!

I lived at Humphrey my Junior and Senior year...During the Wardle years. Dany's was so convenient being right across the street. Also around that same time I went through my 40 oz. phase. It was Mickey's all all day back then! Thanks Dany!

dany's still has the best (by best i mean worst) selection of beer in the immediate vicinity of campus, but i love it. i was there about a year ago and two guys were shooting dice in the aisles.
