Juan Anderson's Mixtape

Argentina and England looked a little sloppy in the first half. Very physical game.

Anthony Gordon being a hero was not on many's Bingo board.

As amazing as that goal was, the Djed Spence tackle a few min later was UNREAL.  That was as electric and "jump out of your seat" worthy as you'd get from a defensive play

Incredible tackle! He's having himself a game.

Juan Anderson's Mixtape

England making the clutch plays right now.  Amazing goal, amazing tackle, amazing save.

Messi is starting to drift higher to get the ball and create.  England's low block making things difficult at the moment.

Regardless of how this match and the final end, the one thing you can say about England is that they have, to a man, defended their ASSES off.  I don't know how much is Tuchel and his scheme/strategy/philosophy and how much is the collective culture and effort of the English team, but when its gotten down to it, they have been magnificent and selfless.  Beyond just the defenders and defensive mids, Bellingham was a defensive hero against Mexico, Kane has had plenty of key clearances when dropping team, Gordon is all over the place clearing balls away, and it keeps going...

It will be a miracle if this lead holds.  Argentina is insane and England is too passive.

Wasn't even that well hit, Pickford out of position.

Relentless by Argentina!! Wow

Can't say it wasn't coming. Turns out parking the bus for 40 minutes isn't a great plan against this team.

Seemingly as soon as I posted that about their defense, Tuchel had them fall back deeper.  They were pressing higher in the defensive third and making Argentina uncomfortable.  Then they fell deeper back and allowed Argentina the space to start taking shots and banking on their ability to soak up the pressure/crosses.  It worked against Mexico but Argentina has way more ability to attack from varied angles and it showed.

Joe Barry masterclass.

Juan Anderson's Mixtape

Messi creating both goals.  England too passive.

Spain and Argentina will be a fun final.  Two teams that want to possess the ball.

lol.  Absolutely correct until it wasn't.  Pulling offense for all those defenders was a terrible idea.

As a long-time supporter of the Three Lions with deep familial ties to England, obviously I'm disappointed, but it was a heck of a ride. I can't disagree with much that has been said here. For me, the match came down to two things:

1. Tuchel went defensive far too early and lost their aggression. If not for Pickford, it could have been 4-1.
2. Messi was inevitable. Argentina are a team of destiny.

That was one hell of a match from start to finish.

I was speaking with a colleague (England fan) just as England scored and I told him I only watch Argentina for the last 10 minutes or so because they score all they need in that time period... and I switched on the TV at the 85th minute and sure enough, Argentina did Argentina!

Very pleased that the most insufferable potential winners (England and France) are now out of it.
