McVay might have had enough of the Rams if this disaster continues, and the networks really want him to be available. I'd think it would be his job if he wanted it - unless somebody offering even more than ESPN goes after him.

Otherwise, Olsen would be the obvious choice. He's the best announcer without a #1 gig right now.

A prominent Packers player in Brown County, no less.

The new Falcons logo certainly is a choice. Apparently they're preparing to invade their neighbors.

I think part of the reason Aikman is pissed is he's not going to get anything near what he wants financially.

Watt staying in the main booth probably made the most economic sense to Skydance.

The musical chairs game for the top booths is closing quickly.

Also, tonight's Bears/Patriots game will be both the most expensive get in regular season game ever and the most watched Thursday night game ever on Amazon.

Hasn't the writing been on the wall for awhile? ESPN has cutting 'A list' talent for years. Reminds me of the newspaper business 10 years ago.

Amazon might be the only spot for Aikman if he wants to be on a primary team. But that won't bring the same $$$.

They just signed Joe Buck to a nine figure contract.

ESPN has continued to pay big bucks to those they consider top talent. (Such as Buck, whom Sultan just mentioned.)

Money is finite for all corporations, so to pay that big money, ESPN has had to make some cuts.

Most of those let go are hardly A-listers, unless you think that describes Karl Ravech, David Lloyd and Bart Scott.

forgetful

Not sure whether to call that a brilliant offensive play, or a complete lapse of focus by the Bears.

I cannot, for the life of me, imagine that anyone is tuning in specifically to see or listen to Joe Buck.

Speaking of Amazon and last night's game, Al Michaels has so lost it.

IMO his voice is a C, delivery is A-  & personality is B. Not iconic like his dad. He's vanilla ice-cream. 97% of people like him or don't notice him.

Nobody tunes in "specifically" to listen to anyone. But having a high quality PBP guy, who can do multiple sports, is important.

Just a few things I noticed:
- "The ball is out."  It wasn't close to coming out nor did any of the players reactions come close to it appearing it was out.
- "The Cubs won the World Series ten years ago today."  Close, it was the NL Pennant.
- "Caleb Williams and Drake Maye were drafted in 2014."  Decade off.  Reasonable misspeak.
- "This will be holding on the Bears on the return." It wasn't. "The penalty is always on the team receiving!"

Al has had a legendary career but it's probably time to call it quits.

We are talking about a lot of money.  His VORP cannot be that high.  He's just a guy.

I loved it in the context of the game as a Bears fan, but when Santos kicked the 58 yarder, about a half second after the ball left his foot, Al went "YEA!"  The man has seen thousands of FGs from the booth and I'm sure as a result he had a pretty good hunch it was straight/long enough, but that's not something you really blurt out as a PBP, especially not one as good as Al.

Really, really bad now. He's on a year-to-year deal with Amazon, and here's hoping this is his last year. There are too many good PBP announcers out there for them to stick with this.

Meanwhile ... credit to Herbie for only twice referring to the Pats' coach as "Vrabes."  :D
