Juan Anderson's Mixtape

Quote from: SchnitzelBoy on May 07, 2026, 09:19:05 AMI was just thinking about guard depth and was wondering how Nash was doing. Not being in a sling (and bowling?) is great but I don't know how much the injury will set him back. I've heard rumblings he can play on the ball but we do need bodies in the backcourt, especially those that can reliably cover for Nigel because we cannot let this dude get burned out or injured next season.

PG: Nigel James (6'0)
PG/SG: Minessale (6'5)
PG/SG: Nash Walker? (6'6)
SG: Adrien Stevens (6'4)
SG/SF: Ethan Johnston (6'7)
SG/SF: Ian Miletic

SG/SF/PF: Damarius Owens (6'7)
SG/SF/PF: MPIII (6'7)

I'm including DO and MPIII because they can move better than most forwards, although I've abandoned hope that Dammarius can be a PG. Is this enough?

Fixed.  Ian has a better handle than Damarius and MP3.  Ian is also a better passer.  Ian would need to defend 3s or smaller 4s, but offensively he can do guard things.

DO and MP3 are strictly off-ball forwards and play finishers.

Remember DO plying point guard in practices before freshman year?  That experiment ended quickly. Militec should not be counted on as a ball handler either until proven otherwise.

Like Tower said.  Need another gaurd.

What makes you confident that Ian can do any of those things against high-major competition? I'm not being snarky, would seriously like some info supporting what you say here because I hope like heck it's true!

Right now, it's just a projection based on watching HS games.  Ian made some advanced passes that were Kolek-esque. (And not just because they're both white and left-handed!)

Conversely, Michael Phillips could only execute basic passes in HS.  He's a Joplin style off-ball shooter.

Thanks for the response, JAM. It would be a huge bonus if Miletic, Walker and/or Egbuonu can make a sizable contribution next season.

Adrien Stevens is a SG/PG.
He relieved Nigel at times last year and was pretty effective, often against good competition.
He's not ideally a PG but has good enough handle and passing/dribbling skills, to go along with a plenty good outside shot to keep defenses honest.

I can actually see Adrien being the backup pg to Nigel, with Nolan and the plethora of 3 options we have handling those roles just fine in the cases where NJ0 has to sit.

I also think this is what those that are advocating for another backup pg are missing in Shaka's thought process. Given Nash' injury, I feel like Shaka wouldn't be comfortable with him as the sole backup pg- if he could even handle that role.
I do think Shaka feels confident that Adrien can, however.
Whether or not he can handle it in a full time basis given Nigel missing extended time is a whole different story, which we dread to see written.

Also, Egbuonu wasn't included on the list

Quote from: tower912 on April 19, 2026, 12:35:17 PMPer Dodds, answering a direct question, Nash had shoulder surgery to fix an injury that occurred 3 years ago.  That is why his arm is in a sling.
So he comes to Marquette and now they're fixing an injury he knew he had for 3 years? Why wasn't that injury corrected when he was in Australia? I am taking that comment from Dodds with a grain of salt.

Dodds and tower are primed for their usual injury excuses.

Dodds always makes excuses.

I don't think injuries requiring surgery are excuses.
