Good game from the field and beyond the arc but still a poor job FT shooting.  Didn't see any rebound stats but sounds like we controlled the boards.

Big test on Saturday and a nice opportunity to pick up a good win.

Delaware State shot 46 field goals and of them, 21 were from long range. Long shots make for long rebounds? :-\

maxpower773

Yes, and no. Barro is still having problems keeping the ball on the way down, actually a good number of guys did tonight.  We should have out rebounded them by about 8 or so.

Am I reading those crooked stats right?

ONE assist for DJ?  >:(

FT's 52%

We gotta shoot much better on Saturday to beat the Badgers.

perhaps the ship has been righted, but smooth sailing tonight wasn't.
MU looked sluggish again, and except for a few spurts and a good final few minutes, did not impress.

lots of alley oops that just don't finish.
ft shooting awful.
perimeter D questionable.
O looked lost at times... thank goodness for a very strong Wesley start to the evening.

we play like that Saturday, oy.

If I were Crean, at this point, anyone that throws up an alley oop is immediately put on the bench.  How many have we converted this year?  Blackledge's, maybe one by McNeal and one by Matthews.  They are almost guaranteed turnovers.  This isn't the And1 tour.  No wonder Crean wants to cut down on the pickup games with that crap going on.

We may have not been perfect but this was far from awful! I think it was a step in the right direction with our "one more pass" mentality. When we maintain control of our dribble and don't force shots, we're gonna be a good team.

We also played at a much slower pace. Good to see us being able to run a half court successfully!

Actually tonight we only threw up 2 alley oops. 1 was a foul that put James at the line and the other went right between Matthews' hands. I think unless its Blackledge on the receiving end we really shouldn't do them....does get the crowd into it though.

herboturbo

Theres nothing wrong with the oops, they just have to do them in the proper context.  The only bad one was to Blackledge and thats only because he had a late jump and couldn't get there in time, otherwise that play would have brought the building down. On the attempted one to McNeal I think Culliban has to realize that McNeal just doesn't have the hops to do an alley-oop like that, he can barely get up to the rim for breakaway slams.

As for Barro, he had a couple of rebounds go through his hands but for the vast majority of the time out there his man dragged him out past the three point line.  Delaware's centers rarely ever were in the post and as a consequence, neither was Barro.
If you can't be an athlete, be an athletic supporter.

one assist for DJ tonight

no rebounds for Barro tonight.......surprising on both fronts

PuertoRicanNightmare

In addition to the 1 assist for James, I believe I also saw four turnovers. We are still turning the ball over way too much. And I echo the previous comments about free throw shooting. 52 percent? That's worse than most high school teams.

When your point is playing the wing he doesn't get as many opportunities for assists.  Maybe TC should think about putting arguably one of the top 2 or 3 points in the country back at the point???  Maybe it would be better to have our best wing playing a wing and our best point playing the point???   Why do we want to weaken 2 positions instead of having our best players at their best positions?  Some things just confuse me.

Maybe last year, but this year McNeal's leaping ability is much better....take the Duke game for example, two blocks of 6'10" guys and one dunk (two foot take off) from the baseline over a player.

McNeal has hops this year.

I thought Fitz finally played the way I've expected him to all year.  3-5 3-pts.  Didn't hear his name all that often in the broadcast but it was usually something good when it was mentioned.  With the slashing abilities of our 4 guards, Fitz should be able to get the easiest 10 points/game in all of college basketball.  Nice to see him do it last night.

ToddPacker

Freethrows were the only concern that I had.  I thought, overall, they played well last night.  DSU plays a frustrating style where they hold the ball for 20 seconds before really getting into their offense.  Barro should be rebounding better, but in his defense, most the time he was out guarding his guy 25 feet or more from the basket.  DSU was very gimmicky and I think that had a lot to do with some of the issues we had.

Ball reversal and rotation was great last night.  Fitz must bring his offensive game on saturday and for the remainder of the season.  He's too good of a shooter to not get at least 4 or 5 attempts beyond the arc every game.

I loved how Matthews set the tone out of the gate with a quick 10 points, but where does he go?  He ended with 15 or so after having 10 in the first 3 or 4 minutes.  He has to bring it for 40 minutes because if he does he will have some monster games for MU.

muhoosier260

good to see fitzgerald take the starting spot and be productive. something that stuck out in my mind was the lack of scoring from the bench: a whopping 3 points off the bench in 57 minutes. it was awesome to see 4 guys in double figures, but the bench has to be productive.

TVDirector

lazar had a reallllly rough outing.
daveed didn't seem to be all that visible, but played fine.
trend was spotty, but fair.

fitz starting was a bit of a surprise considering the last lineups-
he played hard and better than he has all year, imo.
