Quote from: Uncle Rico on July 13, 2026, 11:03:36 AMForecast at Birkdale is benign.  Fast track and faster than usual greens in the offing.

Damn.  No wind or rain anywhere in the forecast.  That sucks.

R&A doesn't care. They choose the course and then let conditions dictate the score.   I love a good train wreck as much as the next guy. But this will be a different challenge.  How to control downwind irons/wedges when they are landing on fairways as firm as your driveway?   Can they avoid bunkers with 100 yards of rollout?

Think Tiger at Liverpool.

I can't root for the guy, but I can envision a scenario where Bryson bombs it over bunkers and gouges it out of wispy rough, landing his wedges 25 yards short of the green and playing the bounce.

Yes.  Your last paragraph is what worries me.  These guys will bomb it past those bunkers and have PW approaches all day.  These courses are not designed for benign wind and guys with 290+ yrd carry distances.

The R&A doesn't have the obsession with protecting par.  Lowest score wins.

Played Royal Birkdale a month ago at 2 under.  Hoping the weather forecasts change drastically going into the weekend.  Herm needs to have the mop ready to keep the floors clean.

Someone could shoot a 61 today.  Low scores early.  Scheffy -3 through 5.
Nick Taylor -3 through 3.

Uncle Rico

Congratulations to Bryson Dechambeau on overcoming his Open demons and winning at Birkdale.

This thing is over.

Quote from: MuggsyB on July 16, 2026, 07:46:00 AMWow.  Rose +5?

How much does Bryson win by?  Half a dozen is my guess.  That's the only question left.

Pretty surprised the scores aren't lower.  Brutal bogey for Scottie on 17.

Scottie is done.  He can't play with Bryson.  Gap is wider than Marquette and Butler

He had a poor round after 6.  Not sure what happened.

Bryson will be -10 at the end of the day, so it won't matter, anyway

Whoops!!!  Herbert goes dead left after a perfect 373 yrd drive on 17!

Why is this guy wearing a LIV shirt?  I thought they didn't exist anymore.  Herbert was in perfect position for a birdie on 17 and mucked his approach shot left, misses a short par on 18, and settles for a 62.  Gave away two strokes for sure!  LIV karma??

LIV still exists.

Lots of people wear shirts advertising their questionable choices.
