He would be as popular a champion as Lowry was at Portrush.

Scheffy still can't make a putt.  Bryson just mucked a 4 footer.

I wouldn't have a problem with Fleetwood snagging this one.  Young is dangerous.

Super confused about Burns' decision on 17.

MuggsyB

18 is a great finishing hole if it's bunched up tomorrow.

MuggsyB

Herbert just got sent back to reality.

MuggsyB

It seems like guys can putt early in the day but by the afternoon/evening it's much more difficult.

Yes.  The greens get tracked up and bumpy.

Gotta love Rory.

"I was up in the players' lounge watching it with a few other players, and as soon as he made the step into the ball, we all sort of looked at each other, and we were like, 'that didn't seem right.' Then when I heard that he was called in by the rules officials ... it was pretty obvious for why.

"I think there's no doubt that he improved the line of his backswing. Again, it's like, whether it was careless or whether it was intentional, I don't think it matters. Hopefully it was careless, but I think the two-shot penalty was justified for sure."

And more ...

"I won't pretend to be up here and defend Bryson. I'm not particularly fond of him. I think a lot of it's performative. I think a lot of it's for attention.

"To hold the tournament hostage like that, and to have all of us — players, volunteers, everyone — waiting on him to depart, I didn't feel like it was a great look."

From what I saw, Rory is pretty accurate.  At best it was extremely careless and not intentional.  And the rules are pretty clear cut.  I don't really understand why the RNA didn't just give him the penalty and move on. Bringing him back to the scene served no purpose imo.

Rory hasn't gotten over the 2024 US Open yet.

I've always like Rory, been a fan for a decade plus.  Running into him in an airport early in his career and the brief conversation I had with him was one of the best athlete interactions Ive ever had to this day. Not to mention, I respect the stance and power moves he took in the heat of the LIV drama and departures.

I don't dislike Bryson like Rory (or most of the board here) but I think the penalty was probably fair and justified if you want to get precise to the absolute letter of the law without context or broad interpretation (very British if we're being honest).  I get why Bryson was annoyed, I get why he felt hard done by it, and think he's not crazy think that he is a bit more scrutinized (though he absolutely brings that upon himself.  The double edged sword of his personality, his YouTube persona, and his testing of the rules/limits on a variety of things).

That being said, Rory has become kind of a borderline holier than thou pretentious whinger lately.  This isn't the first time and certainly won't be the last.  Funny hearing him say this was "performative" when he's the one who took it upon himself to confiscate a fan's phone who heckled him among other fits and outbursts over the last few years.

Interesting that both Xander and Sam Burns defended Bryson and didn't necessarily think the ruling was fair.

Nah, Rory's right. And Xander and Sam have to be teammates with DeChambeau in the President's Cup.

DeChambeau thinks he reinvented golf and that he's smarter than everyone else. His fellow players know he's a phony ... just as Mickelson's fellow players knew that about him.

It doesn't matter based on the rule either way, but I actually think what Bryson did was intentional when I viewed the video.  Again, at the very least it was reckless.  Now perhaps Rory has been "holier than thou", I don't know, but he was specifically asked about Bryson and the ruling.  Why the RNA went back to the spot, which led to Bryson being "performative", is what doesn't make any sense at all to me.

MuggsyB

It's gonna be an interesting day.  Young is on fire early.  We could have a big comeback if we have similar changes to the greens.

MuggsyB

The fescue has honestly been no problem for these guys.  A think a month ago this course would have played night and day different.

tower912

Scottie can putt today.

I know it's a crazy longshot but I'm rooting for Ryan Gerard.  He's a really good dude with a lot of shots in his bag.
