I got the pleasure today to watch my 19 year old figure out that swinging smoothly with the driver and judiciously hitting hybrids off the tee when necessary leads to lower scores.  He hits his PW 160.  He looked up at the end of the round and was giddy when I tallied them up and he had shot 85, beating his previous best by 10.  What?!?!? Keeping it in play and avoiding big numbers is a thing?!?!?

That is what I love about golf.  You never know when magic is going to happen.

Of course I beat him by 9.   Please.

But I actually had to think about it a little.

With Scottie's career basically over, who's the best American player currently?

Gotterup has some nice wins on a variety of courses but hasn't really factored in majors.

Clark has been playing well but he's always living on the edge with his driver.

Bryson is a trick shot artist who can't play anything other than bomb and gouge and has the mental toughness of a Republican who sees a trans person on a beer can.

The rest of American golfers are soft and whiny.  Pretty bleak times.  Good opportunity for the International team to beat this collection of trash cans.

I think that's the first time someone has had 3 eagles in the final round of an LPGA event?  Or maybe any round?  We're going to extra holes.  Akie still deserves props.
