Shaka won't do it. Probably feels it's disrespectful to Sean

Considering how hard Sean worked to get back from his injury, I can see that, but even before that, he wasn't a BE starting caliber PG.

yes...and that is what's so frustrating. IU with coaching staff and roster turnover drops 100 on MU. Wojo could recruit. Coach it? Not so much...which was really perplexing considering his background. Shaka can definitely coach it...but recruit it? Gotta have players. MU will improve, but how much?

Are you sure about this?  I agree Wojo could recruit.  Uncertain if Shaka can coach.  What makes us think that?  When coaching matters most, late in the conference season and in the postseason, Marquette has been at its worst under Shaka.

Agreed, he is not even a point guard, was a scoring guard in high school, probably in high school he got to the hoop easily, different world in college.
You got to look at the bright side, can not play much worse!

not primarily his guys, but the BE conference title and BE tournament championship with MU, and his F4 at VCU give me a lean toward he can coach. And, maybe his MU results have exceeded the talent he's recruited. But, today was harsh...and the fact what would be considered key guys don't seem to have improved that much YOY. (Owens, Parnham) This team is better than today. BUT, how much better?

Quote from: tower912 on November 09, 2025, 02:22:47 PMIt is the exact same offense as the last 4 seasons.

If so, there is very little evidence of the ability to read and react anywhere near the level we have in the past.

257 points in 3 games.

77 points today.  More free throws, more points in the paint.  Different than what we are used to, to be sure.

Nowhere to go but up.

Defense was the problem today.

I'm sure we're all shocked that someone so utterly unbiased and realistic about the state of the program remains optimistic.   I recall your well founded optimism during the Wojo years as well.

One of the reasons I choose to remain resolutely optimistic is the entertainment it provides watching it drive posters like you crazy.  Like the thrill you get from being a troll, I get a dopamine rush from watching how wound up you get from positivity.  Well, that and laughter as you reveal your character.

So, thanks for the laughs and the dopamine.  Please, keep entertaining me.

My take, one word, MATURITY.
Time takes time.
We can debate all we want about athleticism, systems, coaching, recruiting, etc., but nothing beats experience.  So,show me the learning curve.

Wow. Seriously?  Newsflash,Shaka is Marquette's guy. The administration loves him. Going to be a long season for you.

Agreed that defense was the primary concern.

My issue with the offense was that almost all of it was off of individual efforts with the dribble rather than motion and cutting as we have seen in the past. There were a couple isolated attempts at action like that but the timing was off and resulted in turnovers. We were spoiled by the way Kolek, Oso, Kam and Stevie could read, react, and play off of each other. Living off forced dribble drives and hoping for foul calls does not seem like a great recipe given the way the refs tend to swallow their whistles in Big East play.

I'm sure we will improve going forward; it just did not look fluid or have any consistency on Sunday.

Yes, the young guys need to develop the same chemistry and trust that those legends had.   It takes a minute.

Remember, Oso was never going to be a Big East center, TKo was a terrible PG and the keys should be handed to Sean on day 1, OMax fell down too much, Kam was a conscience free gunner who did not know the difference between a good and a bad shot, and Stevie was never going to amount to anything.  And everything else was Joplin's fault.
