I'm treated like royalty in Quebec and even my French is appreciated because of my last name.  My family ancestors saved the Quebec colony in 1634 with The Percheron Immigration at the behest of Champlain himself.  (I'm not making this up.)  I traced my ancestors to mid-1400's France.  My grandfather and extended family immigrated to the USA in the 1930's after the family's trading post burnt down in Quebec near the border.  There was no home insurance back then.  The first words I usually hear when crossing into Quebec at the border or in the hotel are "Bienvenue chez vous, Monsieur...."

A family friend in Ontario just sent me a link on Canadian citizenship.  Apparently as of December 15, Canada changed citizenship requirements and if your grandparent was Canadian you qualify as a citizen if you can present the paperwork tracing lineage.

Italy messed me up in March 2025, when they changed the rules 2 weeks after I started the process.

Oil executives are US citizens. Major shareholders in oil companies are American citizens. Venezuelan citizens will not be at risk of being bombed by the US, so the American oil companies can take their oil reserves. Could it be any clearer?

Totally.  Ive not been since the early 2000s, but from a few friends who have been there, they say its still like visiting small French city as opposed to Paris in terms of needing French to navigate.

That's part of the reason that the Nordiques struggled/ended up moving.  Non-French Canadian players didn't love playing there and it was hard to market with everything being Francophone (in addition to being a tiny market).  Whereas Montreal is very French but not even remotely as difficult to navigate/handle as a non French speaker.

I stayed in QC for three days, and was treated as I was in any other city.  I speak no French.  Lovely city, lovely people.
