A bunch of players.  Rico is referencing Mickleson.

1st time I ever heard FIGJAM.

I may have to change my name on Scoop now.

I didn't know that was his moniker.  My apologies.

A long standing nickname? It can't be too long standing since I've never heard it an I'm older than most of the people on this board

#57
I heard it for the first time 20+ years ago.  Closer to 25, because I heard it before he started winning majors.

Phil inherited it from Gary Player.

A good storyteller changes it to make it better.  But with Gary there is one recurring theme.

Are you saying he's a pathological liar?

tower912

Nope.  A storyteller.  The recurring theme is how awesome Gary is.

Gonna be a heck of a weekend.  Lowry is lurking.

It is a great leader board.  For me, what is the most compelling story?

A career grand slam for Rory.
44 year old Justin Rose beating all of the young bombers.
Scottie back to back.
LIV claiming another major.

All things considered, go Rory.

I think there's some rumors of him having a good foot wedge game or other sorts of mechanisms outside the rules.

tower912

There are stories of Gary standing behind his ball in the rough and tamping the grass down behind his ball.  Tom Warson accused him of cheating during one of th skins games.  There is a legend that his caddy dropping a ball out of his pocket at the 74 Open in some deep rough giving Gary a good lie and decent angle instead of a lost ball.

There is no documentation of any of these things.   So, rumors, myths, legends.

I agree on all points.  But I'm concerned with Bryson.  These are WIDE fairways and the guy can absolutely bomb it.  He also seems to step up in pressure situations.  It would be really fun to see Sheffy and Rory go toe to toe tomorrow.

I'm a big Lee Trevino fan.  I really wish I could have seen him play in the 70's.  Talk about grit and badassery.  What a phenomenal ball striker.  And his story is extremely compelling.  What a likeable dude.

What the hell happened to Jordan Spieth?

A decade ago, he was the best player in the world - won the Masters, U.S. Open, Tour Championship and Hero World; finished second in the PGA; finished 4th in the British. Ranked first, runaway choice for 2015 golfer of the year.

He choked away the 2016 Masters and that affected him for a while, but he did come back to win the 2017 British.

Since then, he's only won two relatively minor events, he's been a non-contender at almost every major, and he has nearly as many missed cuts as top-10s.

He's always seemed to be one who gets in his own head-space on the course. I'm like that, too, so I empathize ... but I've never been the best golfer on the planet. (My top rank was 4th.)

Just a weird fall for a guy who burst onto the scene and accomplished so much at such a young age. Hard to believe he's only 31. Maybe there's still hope, but it was strange listening to the announcers rooting for him to just make the cut yesterday.

It's definitely been a bizarre fall.

There are low scores today.  Could someone go medieval?

MuggsyB

Rory's drive on 1 was only 371 yards.
