Quote from: wadesworld on August 31, 2025, 08:02:37 PMI went to the general NIL Store website today to see if I could get some merchandise for the son of a guy who I play basketball with who is a redshirt freshman tight end at Colorado State. They have a "Best Sellers" on their home page and the best selling item is a Noah Knigga jersey. This country is the worst.

You do know that all of the shock jock sports types been hyping Noah for over a year now?  Pat McAffe has been hyping him, Robert Griffin interviewed him, Fanduel sportsbook was posting about Noah.

Not saying its right, but the media has ran with the name for a while now. No one would know a random kid who plays at Eastern Michigan if the media did not post and interview to get clicks and money off of him.

"McAffe" ... Griffin ... FanDuel.

I guess they're "media."

In 2025, they are considered media - especially by the younger generations. You can loathe that like I do, but it is true.

I came here to post this article, but you beat me to it. The article gives me a knew appreciation for the way Shaka is doing things.

While others are flying blind, it feels like Shaka has a clear plan.  No negotiation, just straight forward, honest financial offers.  Take it or leave it.  If a recruit says no, Shaka will move on to the recruits that will say yes.

I hope you are right about Marquette and Shaka. Yet we just reduced the value of some soccer scholarships for next year's recruits.

Correct. But if the soccer coach had to backtrack, I wonder if other sports had to as well.

You're suggesting men's bball may be reducing scholarships?

No. If they had to backtrack on the value of their direct payments from Marquette on top of the scholarship.

The other sports at MU, other than MBB, are in a completely different boat.

In my opinion, they are going to face much more uncertainty.

I think you are very likely correct.

No. If they had to backtrack on the value of their direct payments from Marquette on top of the scholarship.

You believe we have stated a value of direct payments that have not already been paid? Or that we've told 2026er's, 'hey we think we'll get you $xxx, xxx as direct payment in a year'?

I guess it's possible.. but yeah... I'm going to separate #muMbb from the rest.. don't think we're at some dire point where we NEED to backtrack on men's bball like that. But then again.. after the CBI run this coming year, maybe we'll find ourselves there.
