The main concern I have with the way NM plays is that it seems like they are very good at driving into the paint and the one thing that bugs me about the way we defend is that we foul a lot.

If we get into foul trouble, I can see that being a huge issue for us.

But if you're ever in Tucson, check out the Arby's in 22ns St. The Jack in the Box on Mission and Ajo is also worth the trip.

How's the golf in Tucson?

Quote from: 1SE on March 18, 2025, 08:05:21 AMYeah, I think TOs are almost certainly the key to this game - we're not going to keep that big off the glass - I doubt NM has faced much ball pressure like we bring/have in the BE. We're 13-1 when we have 10+ steals - and 8-7 when we have less than 10. If we can bring the violence and get steals I don't think NM has much shot. But if it's a touchy whistle and we get early fouls which forces a dialing back of the pressure if could be a tough game. Dent has a bit of a sloppy handle (3 tos per game- but given high usage). We can get at it

Agree; who ever forces more steals will likely win the game. New Mexico is pretty good at it too.

SDSU plays tough, high pressure defense. We beat them easily in the Pit, and lost by 8(?) at SDSU.

Dent's turnovers are a bit misleading. A lot of them come from great passes that the player isn't expecting. And a lot are from almost great passes that get picked off. I don't recall seeing too many turnovers from just dribbling.

Not too worry. Our guards will box out beautifully, leaving Ben to dominate the boards, while still draining 8 3 pointers

It's only fair as we'll have 2 guys under 6' that will get minutes next year.

One of our main contributors posted a link of Dent making a zip pass to Joseph after a pick and roll as he dove to the hoop for the slam.

My immediate thoughts were "well that's a great look, could cause MU a lot of trouble" and "that pass had a ton of zing on it, I can't believe the big man was ready for it and caught it"

Those two seem to have a great rapport, and Dent has excellent vision and ability, but he seems pretty cavalier and daring with his passes.
Morant used to be that way, just at another level. Our own Tyler Kolek was a wizard, but Tyler seemed to have a better ability to deliver it in the perfect spot and with a less excitable pace on the pass

I'll say though that Marquettes defense is very pesky, and long, and quick, and excellent at deflections.
This could and should give Dent a lot of problems if Marquette is to win.
I can see him having 5+ TOs if things go well for Marquette because he will start to force the issue.
MU can be bullied though, StJ did just that.

At the end of the day I think whoever has a better day from the outside shooting the 3 wins the game. I'm confident that'll be Marquette on Friday

And that's the concern for Lobos fans. We are NOt a great shooting 3point team. Well hit a few here and there, but it's not our game at all. Coach Pitino wants our offense to run thru the middle and at the post. Priority 1 is to get the ball to the post  to Nelly Junior Joseph. He'll either take it to the rim, or kick in out if the defense collapses on him. That's where the problem is, we don't have a reliable consistent shooter from the 3pt line. Inside and the mid range game is where we line it.

Sorry no, I was getting inundated with tons of inappropriate spam ads/links, so I had to make it sign up. But it's just one time, you'll probably be deleting or never return after the game anyway, unless you want to comment on our 2nd round matchup with MSU!🤣 Come on over buddy, we want to welcome you there!

I don't think 3's will be deciding, unless Marquette shoots something ridiculous, like 18/30. It seems like the Lobos regularly made fewer 3s and shot a lower percentage in most their games this year but still won.

Turnovers and transition points will be the key for the Lobos.
