First off, I am not trashing Clark, what so ever, only seen him play once, was impressed at the scrimmage.  It's to bad he redshirted, he might have helped.  He might be the best player in the conference 4 years from now.  Can not teach height.  Amadou and Hamilton have a long way to go.

Assuming they stay, I trust Shaka and company to get them there.

Interesting, interesting ...

Really, truly interesting.

Interesting.

For a team so desperate for help on the front line, they sure could've used Clark or Amadou. Very telling about their skill set if they red shirt given the current depth chart.

That's right. Because players, especially bigs, don't take time to develop.  :o  :o  :o  :o

It's a new dawn in college hoops. Why tie up a roster spot for 2-3 years before a guys transfers down to a more fitting level, ie keeyan, when you can sign a transfer with immediate eligibility who already has played/succeeded for at least one season in college?

Shaka has his reasons. I have no reason not to support until it shows it doesn't work.

To be fair, he did take several transfers in year 1 given roster turnover and what would be a disjointed rotation without unheralded.

I expect him to make similar additions this off season via the portal given the current roster makeup.

He won't.

And he shouldn't.

IMO, he shouldn't change until it's demonstrated his system/approach doesn't work.

I'm also the least confident, when comparing all of shakas years, about next year succeeding at prior levels.

I love that people are pissed about a 7 seed and 4 straight NCAA appearances. I think next year is going to be difficult to make the NCAA...after that...I believe the future is bright.

BC...what makes you think Shaka would be dumb enough to redshirt an impact player?  If he's ever the best player in the BEAST, it will be because of Shaka and his growth (red shirt season included).

I am surprised Marquette and Shaka have not struck more gold on true bigs given his track record with Texas. Most fans seem to be very pleased with Shaka and his success (myself included). It's only natural to examine areas that need improvement to progress further in March, and we have to keep looking up front first.

I think if Shaka wants to make the tournament next year he might have to have to bite the bullet and scour the transfer portal to bring in a stop gap while the projects develop more.

Agreed.  I just think it is a more complicated situation.  I'm good if MU struggles next year, guys get developmental minutes, future years look bright, and Shaka can still look at recruits and promote he won't hit the portal on them.

The minute he hits the portal, I think his recruiting capability takes a bit of a hit.

I think the reason for this is because it was two 2 seeds followed by a top 5 ranking to start this season (super high expectations) followed be a slow and steady decline to a 7 seed.

If Marquette achieved a 7 seed in the opposite way as this season, people would be speaking much more positively about everything

At the scrimmage he looked better than the bigs that did not redshirt, plus his size.  Sure he would of had some trouble but has to be better then Hamilton, if worse that's a problem going forward

That's a very reasonable stance, but I truly don't see someone as competive and intelligent as Shaka taking a dive on next year because he doesn't want to recruit over players.

He will take multi year transfer players who fit into the culture and system of the program the same way he is recruiting hs guys.

Come on.  He didn't look better than anyone.  Shaka had the offense make an adjustment, and he put down a bunch of alley oops.  Prior to that he wasn't doing anything, and based on that, you think he should be playing?  Ask someone who's been to practices what they think.  This is comical.

Owens was reportedly our second best player in the scrimmages before the season. He certainly hasn't looked that in the season. It's almost like an offseason scrimmage is a bit different than a Big East game.

It is almost like he missed nearly two months of preseason work due to two injuries.  Groin and foot.
