Quote from: Vander Blue Man Group on April 22, 2026, 08:08:18 AMThey did not choose Hamilton and Clark over Sheek.

They did not let go of Sheek. He chose to leave.

Why is this so f'n complicated for some of you?
I never said "they" chose Hamilton and Clark over Sheek. I meant not retaining Sheek and holding onto Hamilton and Clark is not an encouraging sign. Also, are we too assume that every player that enters the portal was their choice and coaches have no say if they get to play another year? The most likely answer was that the departure was mutual. Perhaps the "they" saw there are better options in the portal or elsewhere than retaining Sheek. I cannot imagine they were surprised by this, but if they were it's not about the relationships but the money.

Assume there is open and transparent  communication between the player and the coaching staff.  And then assume that it is ultimately the player's decision.

Quote from: MuggsyB on April 21, 2026, 10:33:14 PMI definitely want another big but that doesn't mean Caedin/Josh will now be playing 15-20 mins a game.  Remember we can play R.P. at times at the 5.  We also may have Freshmen that can contribute immediately, or go small with DO and Phillips.  If we don't find a replacement for Sheek I still don't see 15+ mins for Caedin or Josh, unless they have improved dramatically.

RP had trouble guarding fours in the post (see: Big East tournament game). Don't see how he doesn't get killed by even bigger guys.

... and the Coaching staff openly communicating there will be no scholarship next season for you is a decision made by the player? Perhaps at Marquette players make the decision to stay or not but do not tell me those conversations never happen in college basketball.

Was Sheek the answer guarding 4's & 5's in the post?

This isn't as complicated as you are trying to make it.  At MU...

Assume there is clear and transparent communication about projected roles for next season.
Assume the player makes the decision.

Assume at some other schools that players get run off.

He'd likely have been a better option than Parham.
I mean, it was the staff's plan - and everyone here was on excitedlybon board with - Sheek being the backup five. Are we now questioning that?

I'm not questioning that, but usually it takes some time for young bigs to learn how to defend.  Especially if they're giving up a lot of weight.

He grew 6" taller during the season, so he probably weighs more.
