Boy that Dayton diploma is going to serve him well in the washroom....

Sometimes it is better to realize what you are or are not....Hopefully he got some cash....

At least he got picked up.....and won't have to argue about playing time.....Should be plenty....

Let's see. The A 10 Title game was when? About 20 years ago. Not relevant. What has Shaka done against Dayton since arriving at MU? Hence they own his ass. Getting owned by a mid major, or according to a number of posters  a low major. Dayton owns Shakas ass.

They don't.  Also, human ownership is still illegal, though I have a pretty good idea what your feelings are on that.

Wichita State beat Marquette in 1977.  The Shockers own Al's azz.

Also, I thought you had me on ignore?  🤔

Kinda weird to bring this up about a player who left the team, which was one of our worst ever, and who wasn't that good to begin with.

I agree.  Why would Dayton take him?

I don't see any sites showing Tylen Riley committing... to any schools yet.  Did I miss an announcement.. is he still a possibility for MU?

What are you talking about? Dayton has been a total non-factor program for decades. They have one elite eight in the past 40 years and next year they will be a bubble team at best while we look poised to contend for another big east title.

With that context, who cares about the coaches personal record against a mid major?

You didn't miss anything. He didn't come to Marquette as scheduled so it looks doubtful. No idea if that was a player decision or a Shaka decision.

Don't expect logic from joyless willie. The only way he gets to enjoy his Warrior pennant is in his dark and dank basement.

Happy for Zaide. It's going to be interesting to see how he plays against A10 competition. I can see it going well for him

I can't recall the source so I don't remember if it's trustworthy, but I saw somewhere that Riley will reportedly announce his decision on Tuesday morning.

In any case, I highly doubt we're as warm on him anymore considering that he cancelled his visit and is looking for a starting PG position. Others on here have pointed out he may not have been the best fit stylistically anyway.

Unless I have missed something, we don't know who cancelled his visit.

Even after Minessale is in the fold, depth at the 1 and 2 is thin. The staff apparently doesn't mind keeping two guys who don't project to be in the rotation at the 5, so why not apply the same strategy elsewhere and use the last scholarship on another combo guard? We have the bandwidth and the need.

If you add another guard from the portal, they are playing behind James, Stevens and Minessale, so they are probably going to get less minutes than at their previous school and is Marquette going to pay more in NIL as a 4th guard as they were getting at their previous school where they were a starter?

These are the questions I have to ask if I'm Marquette recruiting additional players next year.

[/quoOK.
Which is a fair question regardless of position going forward.   With the roster MU returns, other than the 5, already filled by Fru, where are big minutes available?

This is exactly what UConn did when signing Malachi Smith away from Dayton to be their backup PG this past season. Hurley is sure glad he did it.

I think a better way of looking at it is you have three guard / wing positions. You have James, Stevens, and Minessale starting, and Owens and Phillips as experienced back ups.

Right now I am not sure that's good enough. Especially if they have any injury issues.

There are still around 2000 guys in the portal.....When we have two done.....We can then research the next most important need.....Probably guard with a handle that can actually make a 3....High volume scorer type for instant "relief" offense would be nice....

That's it. Shakas recent record against Dayton sucks, so we sould not care about. What does that say for our current status? Guess we should not care about that 12-20 season either

Good point.  Probably why Marquette isn't getting anyone in the portal.  If we had hired Pitino (who would have been the best to ever coach at Marquette), we'd be rolling in the portal.
