And you are really being condescending that athletes and their families don't understand how to manage money, including taxes. Sure there are going to be sob stories, but this is MUCH better for the athletes than amateurism and is going to give players a significant head start on adulthood.

I also think it is also good for the sport because it's going to keep players in college longer.

And yes, agents need to exist. You can't simply eliminate them.

Considering his being impaired resulted in a car accident and two Marquette student athletes were killed last fall by a drunk driver it seems pretty self-explanatory to me that Shaka wouldn't get involved.

Nothing funny about a DUI.

If you are really comparing an 11:45am arrest due to weed residue, with a drunken driver at night, then you really have ZERO nuance in this.

Regardless, thinking that someone isn't going to go after a player, due to a simple dui, you're lost.

You also have zero idea on what actually caused the crash. It could be 100% the other person's fault, and you will still be arrested. Coupled with the fact that a weed dui could be the equivalent of a single beer on the "intoxication" level.

I would eliminate the agents entirely and have a salary limit. I'm also guessing there's a sizeable percentage of these players that spend their entire NIL income and have no idea about the taxes.  Personally I think this whole thing is detrimental not only to the sport, but to the athletes.  Unless you change a number of things, including setting them up with a Trust or retirement fund.

And there is a difference between a student already on campus where we can address it with disciplinary actions, and one we are recruiting. We would not accept a transfer student who would have been disciplinarily removed from another University due to a DUI that resulted in an accident.

They would have been expelled by BYU if they weren't an athlete.
