Someone needs to take Ben's role as tall guy who stands around on the perimeter chucking.

7' SDSU F Magoon Gwath entering portal. Time for the teammates "It's Happening" GIF? 🦅

I was very impressed when I watched Gwath play. I'm guessing he's out of MU's price range.

Quote from: tower912 on April 06, 2026, 05:39:46 PMSo did Purdue with Edey.  How DID UConn stop them with Edey going for 37?

Guard play.  Smothering the Purdue guards.

You aren't wrong about quality bigs in the final 4.  Which ones do you think MU can afford?

Low major guard, mid major guard, preferably seniors with size who can play either position.   A mid major big, though I am open to 6'9 with similar skills to Royce who can play next to Royce.

If I were a betting man, Rubin or the equivalent.

Nobody else is leaving.

Royce got physically abused against Xavier. I really hope MU can get a big that can physically compete with inside power players in the BE.

tower912

I hope Royce continues to progress.

So when you say you want a big with similar skills to Royce, do you mean Royce now or a physically souped-up version of Royce that we haven't seen yet?

I will happily take a 6'9 4-5 who shows what Royce showed this past season.   12/5.
Again, I think it will be Rubin or the equivalent.

Why such low expectations? I think a mid-major big would make sense and I'm not expecting any star players, but I'll be surprised if Shaka doesn't bring in at least one player from another high-major.

Darryl Morsell was the 2021 Big Ten Defensive POY and Shaka got him from the portal.

Different time, different economics.

A whole lot of guys have wood for Minessale.   Low major.

If a program like Marquette doesn't have the financial capacity to recruit a single player from a power conference, then God help us.

I've only been thinking about 3 things since we got news Nigel, Royce, and Adrien will be back:

Badass 5
Badass 6'6 or taller switchable.
Badass combo or lead g that can drain threes.

Everything else doesn't concern me.  Find them, get them on the roster, and bring MU back to being a major factor. Immediately.

Rhetorical math in your head time.  I don't care about your answers, I just want you to ponder the following.

What do you think MU's budget for players is?

By the way, this isn't personal.  I don't think anyone here knows all of the numbers.  I think some people have a pretty good idea on some of the numbers.

How much do you think they are paying NJ, AS, and Royce? Not what you would pay them, 26-27 market rate.

How much do you think they are paying the test of the returnees and freshmen?   Again, not what you would pay them.  Market rate.

Add it up and subtract it from what you think the budget is.  The remainder is what they have to spend on transfers.   (For me, that number is $4m-ish, but others math is likely different)

Look at all of the rumored asks of the high majors portal entrants.  MU has 3 slots.  How do you want to allocate that number you arrived at?

Again, I don't care what your number is.  I assume it is different than mine and that is OK.  All I really want you to do is ponder and contemplate.

The way that I look at it is that MU was a 12-win team this season and was relatively bereft of talent. What does MU need to spend to be relevant? The current roster has three proven players.

Fine.  How much do you think is available after paying the returnees and freshmen?

Allocate the funds appropriately.

My math tells me about 7mil to spend on 3 or 4 transfers.  Thats enough to get some very nice players.

Purdue with this year's Gold/Hamilton/Clark instead of that year's Edey/TKR are a first weekend exit. Purdue with this year's James/Stevens instead of Smith/Loyer is still playing in a National Title game.

UConn staying in the game with back up guards.    Get me some guard depth.

They have more turnovers than assists right now. Karaban is playing great and they're winning on the boards.

Yeah, but a Michigan starter is playing hurt, so which excuse gets the advantage?
