Butler played out of their mind and torched our D. They also out hustled us majorly. Two things that can be cleaned up. Game isn't won in the first half anyway.

That was Stevie who blocked that?  I couldn't tell who it was

MuggsyB

We should attack the paint every possession to start the 2H.  All things considered, -7 isn't horrible.

warriors141

Crappy half. Need to beat a 2-7 conference team with our upcoming schedule. With the exception of Villanova our games have just been painful to watch form quite a while

TFlegend

What was that half?? This team is deeply flawed to play like that against a terrible team like Butler.

Quote from: warriorfred on January 28, 2025, 08:25:14 PMButler is the better team tonight.  Sigh

That's been 80% of our conference opponents in the 1st half. Gotta figure that out.

I'll take us in the 2nd half because we have Stevie and his will to win usually gets the job done. It'd be nice if he got some others to join him though.

Matta will not let Screen play against Gold.  Ben goes in, Screen goes out and Matta goes small, forcing Ben to guard McAffery on the perimeter.

Zog from Margo

Not going to win many games letting the opponent shoot over 60%. Might be the worst defensive half of the season.

It hurts that Gold can't score in the post. When the opponent goes small, Gold's size provides no advantage on offense. On D he's left trying to guard quicker players away from the hoop.

We'll see how MU adjusts. Only down 7.., surprisingly.

Joplin is shooting less than 30% from 3 this season, 1-5 tonight.  He needs to be much more productive on both ends of the court.

Butler just fought Creighton and UConn tough. Chill.

We gotta play better but it doesn't mean we're deeply flawed.

I prefer Screen on the bench. He was killing us on the boards. Keep Gold in the game.

Kind of getting a 2006 Chicago Bears vibe about this Marquette team.  The Bears won a lot of flukey games that year and kept rolling to the Super Bowl, but were not that good. . .  not sure what to think . . .

Quote from: Vander Blue Man Group on January 28, 2025, 08:51:44 AMI feel like I'm a bit more concerned about this game than I should be.  Butler has given Creighton and UConn some tough games this month.  Of course, they did lose to Nova at home and barely squeaked by Seton Hall.

Looks like the team wasn't as concerned about it as they should have been. Getting slapped around by a bad team.

Shades of the game at Butler in Shaka's first year.

What game have we won that was "fluky"? Two of our three losses could also be described as fluky.

Positive regression ahead for MU in the 2H. So has been the story of the season...

Good way to describe it, "getting slapped around bye a bad team."

I would argue part of the reason his shooting is down is because he has been more productive on the other side of the court.

GoldenEagles03

It's just been stupid stuff tonight.

Play good stout defense for 30 seconds...not 25 seconds and leave a shooter wide open in the corner. Don't go for shot fakes, don't over help, rebound. The concepts are simple, the execution isn't.

Xavier at home, Georgetown at home . . . flukey may be the wrong word but it felt lucky for Marquette to be in the Xavier game and win the Georgetown game.

How many college basketball teams play a season without lucky wins?  I think lucky is probably the way to describe it better than fluky

Your first example of a fluke win is a loss.

Those weren't fluky. We tried really hard to lose them, but we were the better team down the stretch. That is decidedly not the case thru 20 minutes

Sign me up for a flukey run to the title game.
