Hope that first half is the pig through the python.

Georgetown was prepared for what we were going to throw at them while we looked lost. Shaka talks about violence but we got punched in mouth that half. The way this team is shooting 3s isn't sustainable, not gonna keep winning with our low percentage

If he's hitting 3s asset.. if missing everything like tonight liability he's just so one dimensional. Can't even block 6 foot guards

GoldenEagles03

Georgetown has all underclassmen in their starting lineup aside from one guy. Up to the starters for us tonight...the upperclassmen. Gotta be better.

A lot of guys had their worst half of the season right there.
VIOLENCE!

MUEng92

I'll admit not watching a single minute of Georgetown play before tonight.  Sorber is the only guy I heard about previously and he's been the only player on their team I haven't been impressed with so far.

mileskishnish72

So far it looks like they want it and we don't GAS. Tough to win turning the ball over and shooting half the % of what your opponent does.

This second half will tell us a lot about the team we got.

warriorfred

Georgetown was ready to play.  Hats off to them.

Marquette seemed like this was the first time they ever saw a zone defense.  Completely lost.  Not sure what to say about the preparation or play?

Milkshakes

I was hoping to get it to 6 by half.  9 is not great but if they can get back to being the more aggressive team and if someone can break the zone - Jop might be our only prayer to sit in the middle - maybe we get this one.

Zog from Margo

I've complimented Shaka on his use of the bench in terms of development but it backfired tonight. Need a short bench in the second half.

Jop having 2 fouls definitely killed their ability to attack the zone, but they gotta have a backup plan. Ross was not the answer in the middle.

Ben and Damarius can't catch a pass today, so it has to be Kam if Jop isn't in.
VIOLENCE!

This makes 4 out of 5 conference games that MU has struggled against mediocre opponents. 3 of those are at home.

Definitely not looking like a top 10 team and a loss tonight could take them out of the top 10 for the rest of the season.

warriorfred

There has to be a Warrior that can break the zone.

Quote from: MUEng92 on January 07, 2025, 07:44:44 PMKam might have to take over this one by himself

Going to have to hit threes because they are swatting everything down on the inside.    Need to hit threes.  We are shooting 29% overall. Ugh. Need to fix that now!

NotAnAlum

MU just has no strategy against a zone.  We don't have 1 or 2 pure shooters who can force a team out of zone by hitting 3s.  Last year Oso could handle the ball just below the top of the key threaten back door passes or pass to open perimeter shooters.  This team is all drive to the lane and the zone takes that away.  I want to believe they can still come back but its going to take 3 things.
1 Stevie, Kam and Jop hot from deep.
2  No more stupid turnovers
3 Defend the backdoor and force GT to shoot from the outside.
Its possible

Need a mid range shooter

So you're saying...we need some midrange!?
Assume what I say should be in teal if it doesn't pass the smell test for you.

You speak the truth.  This is concerning.

The first one he missed tonight was more the result of a poor pass that put him off balance.

Malik Mack is a hell of a player. Great season for Harvard last year. He was one that if we took a transfer I would have wanted.

warriorfred

Good comment on the need for a mid range shooter.  I'm struggling to think who that would be?

I'm confident they don't shoot 57+% in the 2nd half, and that we shoot better than 29%. The question is, can we protect the ball better and turn them over enough.

Definitely  can't survive with just rim or threes

29% from 2 can't continue, can it?

Every doubt about GT I REGRET. They are better than I thought....even if we win.
