1. Marquette did to Butler all game what Dayton did to MU in the first half.  Dominated the O boards and stayed afloat via second chance points.
2. Kam Jones, even on an off night, pretty darn good.
3. Telfort was pulling contested shots out of his dentist in the first half.
4. Pierre Brooks is a body type MU struggles to match up with.
5. I do not mind the threes MU took.  In the offense, none forced.
6.  Trying to recall the last time MU dominated the O boards like they did tonight.
7. Get used to it.  Kam goes out, the opponent goes zone.
8.  All of those o boards and putbacks and Butler almost never fouled MU?
9.  Ben focuses on guarding Screen.  Screen becomes invisible.
10.  Tre and Zaide playing more minutes.
11.  Beat Xavier, take 10 days off.

Any win is a good win.
Joplin 4 for 17.  1 for 8 from 3pt line.
Looking forward to Saturday's game against Xavier.

CountryRoads

Crowd just seemed flat as ever. I guess I'll just be happy with the win against a team that's lost a crooked number of buy games. Time to go win at X.

Good teams find ways to win when they have a bad shooting night.

Juan Anderson's Mixtape

Another cursed shooting night vs Butler, so I will gladly take a 10 point win.

Turnovers and rebounding determined this game. Marquette advantages 18-3 OR, 14-2 TO...a whopping +27 in the opportunity index.

lostpassword

Box score shows 75 field goals.  I can't find that many in a game since 2013 (!) when we had 82 in a 114-71 game vs Grambling.  Not counting a couple OT games in the 75/76 range.

DoctorV

Butler 24/47
Marquette 32/75

I don't think I've ever seen a Marquette team attempt 25+ more shots than its opponent, and I'm not sure I've ever seen it in any basketball game.

Just wanna say this thread title is awesome. Probs my favorite I've seen thus far.

Shooter McGavin

Take the win and run.  Hopefully better three point shooting nights ahead.

Vander Blue Man Group

I understand he can be frustrating but anyone that says Jop being gone next season is addition by subtraction is a complete f#cking dipsh#t.

DJO's Jaw

Marquette only missed four fewer shots (43) than Butler attempted all night (47) and won. Absolutely wild discrepancy in the number of shots each team took. Forcing turnovers and getting offensive rebounds is pretty neat.

You seem upset that I have an opinion.

If jop wasn't on this team, this year, the team would be better on the court

Don't forget, TyKo leaving has almost been addition by subtraction 🤣

#TheShakaWay.

In all honesty, at this point I just hope Jop figures out a way to shoot 35% from 3 because he's serviceable in other ways.

His biggest strength, his ability to put the ball in the basket, has somehow become his bugaboo.

Kid can score though. So, stay the course and do all the other things and the scoring will come.

Marquette won't suffer with his replacement, however. Not because he's a bad kid or a poor player, but because it's the Shaka way.

No. I'm annoyed that you're dumb.

Lol what?

Our bench has been incredible for us this year, so obviously having a starter not on the team would be a great thing! Oh wait...

Lennys Tap

12. Stevie and Ben a combined 10 - 10 from the field!

13. Royce played 10 minutes, put up 9 shots. Like his aggressiveness, but....

In terms of Royce, I have to imagine Shaka doesn't want to take away what will make him great some day.

But I imagine as the conference season moves on we'll see better shot selection. Or less minutes.

Jop's a contributor. He gets rebounds and is an underrated defender. My only gripe with him is that if he misses his first three 3s, he's most likely not going to make any. But he'll still chuck it 3+ more times anyway.

MuggsyB

Kam and Jop took 41 of our 75 shots.

Jop's progression with defense and rebounding has been awesome to watch.

His lack of progression with offensive decision making, dribbling, driving and hitting consistently from anywhere on the court hasn't been awesome to watch.

And that's especially harmful this year when we need a consistent 2nd/3rd scorer this season.

jesmu84

Chase has displayed incredible athleticism this season multiple times with dunks and blocks.
