When is he going to learn how to stay on the floor? He's made great adjustments in his MU career, can he make this one?

Shoot, I thought from the title he had been hit with another ticky tack one.

Smart coaches attack the other team's best player.  Al talked about wearing him out by running him through screens and making him defend.  MU hid Kolek last season.  Maybe Shaka needs to find ways to make sure Kam is not on the ball.

Or maybe he just needs to play smarter.

Is there good video of that 3rd one? Live it didn't really look like much in a hame where the refs were generally letting them play

The 2nd foul they called on him was total BS, but they called it...gotta move on.

To get his 3rd in the way that he did is just unacceptable from his standpoint if you expect to win. When you go up 13 it should feel like a small dagger to the other team...instead Kam instantly picks up his 3rd and gives life to a team that didn't really have any.

Oh well. He needs to be smarter, and the good news is that there is no reason to believe he can't.
VIOLENCE!

Tangentially related...

I thought the offense after Kam re-entered the game after the 16 min TO was terrible.

It was 3-4 consecutive possessions of getting Kam to switch onto their big and playing one on one with no off the ball movement.

We might have gotten 2 points outta those possessions

Standing still and dribbling is rarely ideal.

Agreed. And I don't know what was up with Joplin. I never had a chance to get frustrated with him because he was just invisible.

That's 100% correct.  I was flabbergasted.  Way too much dribbling, guys just standing around, and no fluidity or cohesion.  It's also worth noting that when Kam has the ball in his hands that much he's wasting a lot of energy.  Kam has done a superb job of allowing the game come to him and picking his spots but that didn't happen yesterday.  He still got good looks but we are at our best when everyone is involved and Kam is dropping dimes when doubled.

We kicked the ball away 8 times in the 2nd half because of overdribbling and having 0.0 rhythm and focus.  Pass the basketball.  Use Ben in the high post a bit and move the rock.  I really hope JTY is back because I think Kam facing a lot of ball pressure can be a problem vs certain opponents.  No reason he should be exerting so much energy on every possession vs quick and physical guards.

Muggsy, Sean, if he returns this season, is unlikely to be an instant game changer.  It is unfair to him and the process to pile these things on him.
I would counsel patience, but I know better.

Perhaps you are correct.  Would you redshirt him?

tower912

I would encourage all involved to make the best choice for Sean.  If he is able to and wants to play, let him play.  If he is unable to get to 100% in a reasonable time, make a different choice.

Shaka says he is scrimmaging and doing good things.  If he started playing games now, I expect that a month from now he will look like the Sean of your sepia tinged memories.

I would love the depth, the ball handling, the on ball defense that he brings.

Seems reasonable.  Hopefully we learn from yesterday.

And he couldn't have done worse than Tre did yesterday. They really can't give Kam much of a break because the options aren't great. I guess Chase is the best?

Stevie and DO can handle the ball but they're not accustomed to it.  It can be done by committee possibly.

Stevie was pretty poor last night. And DO only played 7+ minutes.

Yes.  It was one game.  Kam is still going to be the primary ball handler but both of them may be able to bring it up and move him off the ball for stretches.

tower912

DO gave up a three and immediately threw the ball away on the offensive end.  If he was the answer last night, it was to the wrong question.

Some sage once opined that the best thing about freshmen is they become sophomores.   As in so many things, patience.   DO and Parham are going to be beasts.

Yep, that sequence gave Owens a nice view of the game from his courtside seat.

I didn't want to say it.  He's not the savior some here think he is going to be.  He's a minor upgrade from Norman.

Very quick athletic kid. Trouble with dribbling under pressure. Poor shot. Good defender, if sometimes prone to overplaying

DoctorV

This board has vastly differing views on SJ22 before his injury last year.

Muggsy and I were much more bullish than most.

Many said Marquette was better without him on the court, but that had a lot to do with TyKo losing minutes. I didn't agree with it regardless, because I saw him as the perfect asset to break down a good, set defense in the half court with his speed, elusiveness, and other abilities.

I'll defer to Shaka, who said at the time of the injury that Sean Jones was one of the most improving on his team and that it really hurt them all a ton.
I truly hope he can find his former self, but I definitely don't expect him to have all of his previous weapons the way he used to.

Let's not forget that some on scoop argued, I believe even last season, that Kam Jones was just a volume scorer and not much else. If memory serves he was pretty undervalued by many up until pretty recently.
So, opinions come and go, things change, and that's ok
