Quote from: DienerTime34 on November 12, 2024, 10:14:45 AMI can't believe we don't have an inside presence because Shaka wants to be a "family". Total Dabo move. Where did the self-imposed "no transfers" concept come from anyways? It's very recent. Shaka's best player here, TKO, was a transfer.

If you don't think the team could use another big body down low, you are blinded by blue & gold glasses. Frankly, the "family" would be a lot happier and stronger with one "adoption" haha.

And no, I'm not just reacting to this game. We are going to get abused in the Big East inside. You really think this team can play inside night in and night out in our league?

It's not that Shaka isn't pursuing transfers. But, he's said he will not take guys who demand guaranteed NIL money to just come to MU. Shaka values culture and guys coming to MU and earning their dollars here. A lot of bigs were demanding seven figures to transfer and Shaka isn't going to give that.

FYI, Kolek (and O-Max) came to MU before NIL was implemented and collectives were a thing.

Quote from: MUfan12 on November 13, 2024, 10:17:57 AMI'm certainly more willing to ride the ups and downs with Caedin and the freshmen. That stuff is gonna happen.

The sophomores showing very little is a way more concerning.
I keep thinking Lowry will have a bust out game that takes him to big things. Norman? Not sure. Looked good at CU last year, but more often than not the game seems too fast for him. Regardless, keep sending him out there!

tower912

Norman played 10 minutes and went 0-4 at Creighton.  The only thing he could get in the basket was his vomit.

Vipe must've been too distracted by his non stop crap talking RED friends/in laws to remember that Creighton game.

Zaide played well at Creighton.

Zaide and Norman are easily mistakable interchangeable names if you are borderline illiterate, to be fair.

Yep. And Shaka had to build a roster - and start building a culture. In Kolek and OMax, he chose two transfers who would play multiple seasons at Marquette and help build that culture. When he also was able to successfully re-recruit Oso, Kam and Stevie, the path became clearer.

Comparing those transfers - and even Morsell and Kur - to the million-dollar transfers out there now is just silly.

Doesn't mean Shaka should avoid considering all transfers ... and there's no evidence he has.

Disappointed with what Tre has shown so far - plus he seems to have a propensity to foul that will limit his time on the floor.

Quote from: rocky_warrior on November 11, 2024, 11:18:53 PMOnce George Mason plays Central Michigan on Wed... Well ... Maybe we'll see if they can live up to their "80'.  Though to be fair, thus far the only thing I can say about central Michigan is they they keep games close!

Bump.

TAMU, Knower of Ball

Zero concerns about the three-point shooting. We got open looks, Ben and Joplin didn't hit them. We have two years of data on Ben and three on Joplin. We know they can hit open looks, they didn't suddenly forget. Both are known to be streaky.

I do have some concerns that we only managed 19 2P attempts against this level of defense. It was a basic 2-3 zone against a low major, we should have gotten a lot more looks at the rim. I think coach will fix that.

Weird game. Lots of fouls. Stevie banged up, Tre banged up, Royce banged up halfway through, Owens and Sean out. Never got in a rhythm offensively. Defense was elite.

People seemed to not realize that Tre missed several weeks right before the season started. He's still wearing a brace on his shoulder. It's going to take him time to work back. I am very excited about Owens, hopefully the toe doesn't limit him too much. Zaide's defense is Big East ready...I wish his offense had shown some more improvement. Royce has been better than I thought he would be.

Well, there is some evidence -- the fact that he hasn't signed any -- but it's far from conclusive evidence. I trust that Shaka will consider transfers if appropriate. He's clearly demonstrated his preference to avoid the portal but I have little doubt he'll do what's necessary if he somehow ends up with a roster hole that he believes needs to be filled.

Shaka pursued players in the portal the last 2 summers. Not signing players does not equal not considering players.

I'll stick with my opinion on Gold.  He'll be in foul trouble within the first eight minutes.

I don't remember the publication (it may have been the Athletic but there have been a lot of positive articles about Shaka and the culture at MU in the last year) but there was an article where Shaka said they targeted four guys in the Portal and all demanded money to come. He told them they could earn it once they got to MU, like MU guys did and that was the end of the conversation.

I agree with all of this analysis.  Would be great if Jop and Gold could iron out their streakiness to be more reliably consistent.  I believe they are both good shooters who for whatever reason are streaky.  I also feel Zaide is a better shooter than he's shown thus far this year - been surprised he's long balled a few 3's (air balls on the long side), but suspect that's just early season adrenaline.

Joplin and, to a lesser extent, Gold, have shown an ability to get on long streaks of good shooting. Each has been used primarily as an outside scoring threat, and each has come through (and each also has struggled at times). Lowery has not yet had the opportunity to show it, so for now it's just a matter of hoping he's a better shooter than he's been so far this season.
