Unless Green becomes a superstar, the Rockets gave up precious little to get a player who, if healthy, will be very valuable for them.

Durant was definitely worth the gamble for them, especially if they had already decided that Green isn't gonna be a special player.

From the Athletic: "Plain and simple: The new, inexperienced Suns front office, with Brian Gregory as the new general manager, got worked in this deal."

Basically they weren't patient enough and didn't get what they needed in return - they should have held out for their original '27 first round pick so they can "properly tank" coming off the Beal contract expiration. Green doesn't really fit and will need to be traded.

This exactly. They gave up the right to pay a player they didn't want to pay, along with the 10th overall pick and pocket change.

The 10th pick can turn out to be a good player over time, even a great player, but only if a team is very lucky. At #10, you're just hoping.

It's actually pretty stunning how little Phoenix got in return for a top-20 all-time player who just completed a season in which he averaged 27-7-4 and shot 43% from 3.

37 is the most important number regarding this trade.

I agree with all of this.

I disagree with those who insinuate that Green is garbage.

If KD is even 85% as productive as he was as a 36-year-old, this trade will have been a steal. And if he is healthy - always a legit "if" - he will be at least that productive.

At 37, LeBron still was a relative "kid." At 37, Kareem still had 5 more years, three of which resulted in NBA titles.

I don't think Green is garbage at all. I think the Rockets came to the conclusion that he wasn't a big enough player in the playoffs this year, and became expendible.

And you are right that this isn't risk free for the Rockets.

He's not garbage. He just isn't a fit (right now) for the roster as constructed that is ready to win now.

I would think Phoenix moves Green or Booker.  It's a good risk for Houston.  Durant is still a guy you can give the ball to in the 4Q.

The Suns would be insane to get rid of Booker for the sake of Jalen Green.

True.  Unless they get a haul back.  But they may consider that.

MuggsyB

Indiana has to take care of the rock to have a chance in this game.  I also think Turner can't be a no show and Haliburton has to go for 20 and 10.

Damn. This was looking like a real good game too.

BM1090

That's so fuckin shitty.

Less importantly, I did a $50 to win $2000 bet in round 1, pacers over Thunder to win the finals. Get us over the finish line TJ

Of course it still can be...no need for me to be hyperbolic here.

The East is going to be such ass next year my god. The Dame trade has been such a catastrophe. Giannis alone is good enough to make Milwaukee a threat to win the East, just need to have a halfway competent roster around him but can't with Dame out and his contract.

Caruso vs McConnell. Dream Finals match up.

I don't see how Indy can win this game. McConnell isn't a 35 min guy.   Nemhard or Nesmith will have to go bananas. Or BM.

It would help if Myles Turner did something on the offensive end.  What a freaking disaster he has been.

MuggsyB

That can't happen.  Secure the freaking ball.
