Unfortunate.  We have a neighborhood iconic greasy spoon closing  at the end of the month because the owner wants to retire and nobody wants to buy him out.

I hate to see these places close.

Ditto with a local breakfast place.

Not Fat Boy! Stopped by there a few times when I had hearings at the Grand Rapids ODAR office.

We are huge fans of Leon's across the street - go there for the famously delicious butter pecan frozen custard every time we go to Milwaukee. Amazingly, we never wandered across the street to Mazos. Our very last time at Leon's, after an MU game last season, I told my wife: "Next year, let's go to Mazos for a burger before we get our custard at Leon's."

Just goes to show ... shouldn't put things off!

We have had a couple like that here. Owners wanted to retire, no one wanted to take it over. I think that happens in a lot of family businesses. Kids want something else. Restaurants are just more publicly noticeable.
Funny, one of them was at a public park, and there was a massive effort for a petition to keep it open. The owners finally had to publicly say they were retiring, stop the damn petition, it ain't gonna happen.   ;D

The barbershop I go to was run by two brothers. When the older brother decided to retire, Kevin the younger brother, put out ads for a new barber. After 2 years no takers. When Kevin retires the place will close.
