This past Friday… at a nearby park.. 5 teens shot on and near by a basketball court, VERY close to the Pickleball courts, at 8:15p. Multiple assailants appeared and began firing. No arrests; very little info / updates of note so far. This was in a suburb that borders mine.

Dozens of witnesses.

(FBI likely to blame, aina)

Why weren't you packing so you could stop some bad guys with guns?? Bee Jay to blame, aina.

Yessir. It's kind of like the way god saved the previous president but was happy to sacrifice Corey Comperatore, the 50-year-old dad who took a bullet for his family that day. The lord provides for all ... except those who die horrible deaths ... but he actually provides for them too, because she's all-knowing and just ... except for when he or she is an angry god who says gay people and adulterers are evil and should be stoned to death ... unless the adulterer is the previous president, and then it's OK.

That’s God for you.  What a comedian.

It’s no coincidence that school massacres began when science started getting taught.

Not to mention the removal of compulsory prayer.

The answer is obvious. Let him commit mass murder and then invoke thoughts & prayers.

Sounds like you're admitting that there's not much law enforcement could have done but you're going to blame them anyhow.

You think 13-year-old kids get locked up for 16 months over a Discord post?
Lol.

Any inside info on whether God is gonna be on the Packers side tomorrow? I think the Eagles are commies anyway, so God should be on the side of the good guys.

Who said 16 months?

He was questioned by police over the previous threat 16 months ago, so ...

But I'll rephrase.
You think 13-year-old kids get locked up AT ALL over Discord posts?

Kids that age very rarely get locked up at all, and when they do it's for violent offenses, not chatroom posts.

The police could have done a better job in the investigation. They stated they couldnt substantiate that he wrote the post. OK. Sure they could have.  There has been instances of kids being processed for online threats. Get them in the system which requires at least a basic form of counseling/therapy.

Should any action be taken against kids who threaten school shootings?

Should the parents be prosecuted for allowing access to a gun to a minor who threatened mass murder?

Maybe?

Yes, if there's probable cause kids who threaten school shootings should face some kind of consequence in the juvenile system.

Quote

Possibly.
What do you mean by allow?
What do you mean by access?
Is the mere presence of a gun access? Does the presence of a gun confer upon a minor permission to possess it? If the gun is put away, but the kid knows where to find it, qualify as allowing access?

You wrote "he should have went to juvie." Now you say "process him so he can get into counseling."
These are two completely different things, as you know.

Dear lord. Going to juvie is being processed into the system. Do you even know the process, aside from what you read on Google? Juvie is a correctional facility where a juvenile is held before trial.

Do you even know the process?
The large majority of juvenile offenders, and the vast majority of nonviolent offenders, never spend a day in detention. They're processed at a police station and released to the custody of their parents/guardians. 13-year-olds do not get locked up over threats as a matter of course, either before or after trial.

And juvie is a correctional facility, period. Some are pretrial. Some are post-adjudication. Some even have space for both.

An impressive combination of shifting goalposts and not understanding the system.

You are wrong. Google is not your friend on this.
Juvenile detention is short-term confinement, primarily used after a youth has been arrested, but before a court has determined the youth's innocence or guilt. Occasionally, "juvie" is used post adjudication, but that is not the norm.
Many cases over the past several years involving teens making threats to shoot up schools have gone through the process.

Just because you think that many of the cases dont go through the process doesn't invalidate my point of that is what COULD have happened.  You are arguing just to argue, I think.

From the Washington Post:

The 14-year-old arrested after a mass killing at Georgia’s Apalachee High School had been “begging for months” for mental health help before he allegedly carried out a deadly attack Wednesday, according to an aunt of the shooting suspect.

He “was begging for help from everybody around him,” Annie Brown, the aunt, told The Washington Post. “The adults around him failed him.”

Where do you think juveniles go when adjudicated guilty and sentenced to detention, if not juvenile detention?

And I don't need Google. I've literally spent dozens, if not hundreds, of hours in juvenile courtrooms.

Detention is pre-trial. If convicted, they usually get probation or get sent to a correctional facility. Again, steering way from my original point of COULD be sent to juvie.
