Notre Dame is suspending its men’s swimming program for a minimum of one academic year after internal and external investigations revealed a widespread gambling issue that violated NCAA rules, and what athletic director Pete Bevacqua termed in a statement, “a deeply embedded team culture dismissive of Notre Dame’s standards for student-athletes.”

So wasn’t the controversy that the swimmers were betting among themselves about their own results? Because I’m pretty sure in Vegas there isn’t a line on Notre Dame swimming. And if there is, they should burn the whole damn place to the ground.
Speaking of which another Marquette alum and I were almost kicked out of Excalibur for gambling. We were playing that stupid roll the ball horse, racing game and betting between the two of us who would finish higher. The bet? The dollar cost to play the next game. We were warned once and then told we would have to stop or be thrown out.
Seems about the same level of enforcement as Notre Dame swimming.
