Doc - thank you, rocket and all other Marquette Dental students for the work you've done helping poor people in Milwaukee who couldn't otherwise afford dental care. Some people talk the talk, some walk the walk.

" The main reason Medicare hasn't covered dental care since its inception in 1965 (except when oral health problems become so severe they require hospitalization) is that organized dentistry staunchly opposed it.

The dental lobby insists that any additional dental coverage should be restricted to the poorest Medicaid recipients. However, its main concern–as it was 56 years ago–is that Medicare would not reimburse dentists to their satisfaction. The ADA's lobbyists, in essence, are placing the financial desires of dentists above the health needs of millions of Americans over 65, which is the age group with the lowest rates of dental coverage."

dentistry, aside from the ADA/WDA, has opened multiple satellite dental clinics staffed by volunteers, organized volunteer events-missions of mercy, etc...the dental school has made available multiple state-wide clinics in rural areas. just because we rejected gubmint assisted aid, doesn't mean that dentists don't care about those who cannot afford care.  many independent dentists have offered their own forms of charity, discounts, payment plans, etc within their own practices.  they will set aside certain days to treat the economically disadvantaged

typically, gubmint assisted aid falls so short of accomplishing anything, we take it up on ourselves to reach out.  this way, we aren't mandated or restricted to treat as we deem necessary as opposed to what they deem "necessary"

do lawyers have a Medicare/medicaid like system to help out those in need of legal services?

You aren't doing yourself, or dentists, any favors here.

This is a serious thread.  I'm glad scoop is alerting us to the rampant crime in the dental field.

Keeping scoop safe is a great thing.

Also, I do agree with you that lawyers don't do anything for clients that can't afford them but the lame stream media and circle jerkers won't admit that but the woke mob protects them.

High level-if it is a criminal case-there are public defenders. If it is civil-many attorneys are contingency based. If you are a defendant in a civil suit and trly cannot pay, there are often legal aid societies or pro-bono services to help.

Pro boner if it's Dental malpractice

Is this evidence of how bad Marquette education was back in the day or age-related cognitive decline?

Besides the obvious (public defenders):

1.Every state bar association and the American Bar Association recommends lawyers provide a certain amount of pro bono work annually (50 hours for the ABA) to meet ethics standards.
2. Some firms, especially those one might label "biglaw," require associates to perform pro bono work.
3. Federal and state governments typically are the primary funding source for legal aid clinics. For the feds, it's done through the Legal Services Corporation, which spent well over $1 billion on legal aid last year.

Hope that helps.

Fr. Matt Foley (Chris Farley's old MU roommate) takes a group of dentists and dental assistants to the poorest parts of Mexico for a couple of weeks every year. Many of the people they treat have never been to a dentist. One of my best friends goes every year - don't think he's seen a Super Bowl in decades but he wouldn't miss that trip for anything.

The Sultan

Too bad Fr Foley likely got himself tied up in a fentynal smuggling operation.

Thanks guys, I already have an irrational fear of going to dentist.  Now I have a rational fear of going to the dentist.

Yes, call your fellow alum idiots. That's more on you, than us.

It was a self deprecating. If you had gotten into a better university you probably wouldn't need that explained to you.

Hope that helps.

Yeah its called Legal Services  and the Legal Aid Society . Which are going pretty strong despite the efforts of you and your fellow Know Nothings to defund them over the years.
