I watched 7 golfers on the postage stamp before work this AM and only one stayed on the green and two doubled it. That hole is fabulous theater.
Rory is cooked. Some big names with some high numbers including Bryson, Theegala, Homa, Fleetwood and Cam Smith.

Flower is a big name and he's done, too, but no one expected him to contend

Tiger is done.

At some point he's got to drop the, "I'll only play if I think I can win," charade to just saying he enjoys playing in the majors.

I think Tiger pretty much said that in response to Monty saying he should stop playing :

This year's long shot feel good Cinderella. Though he does have a DP world tour win.   Worry about it in 48 hours

Here's my shocked face that Bryson can't handle Open conditions

Here's my not shocked faced that he played the back 9 in 1 under and ended up handling Open conditions better than Rory.

Maybe Bryson will have a Claret Jug one day like Rory.

With ball speed of 190, because of the cool, damp, wind and conditions, his ball isn't compressing like he is used to.   But he hopes he will figure it out.

Tower,

How far do you hit your driver when you lean into it?  I was just curious.

Uncle Rico

Surprising scores after round 1 outside Bryson and Rory:

Cam Smith +9
Hideki +4
Aberg +4
Fleetwood +5
Theegala +6

Suspect 1 or 2 of the aforementioned 7 posts a decent number tomorrow and makes the cut (probably not Cam Smith).

Players going out later Friday will have to deal with winds up to 30mph but should be dry

Yeah, it's incalculable

His driver loft is 5 degrees, 3 wood is 9 degrees.   He is used to generating so much club speed and compressing the ball so much.   60, damp, and windy makes the balls firmer and the air denser and the ball go less far.
For those of you who golf in crap weather in the upper Midwest (maybe I am the only one), that is when you bring out your Duos, your SuperSofts, your QStars, your E6s and hit one to two more clubs.

Muggsy, depends on the day and the conditions.  Getting very little bounce right now due to all the rain.   Fairways are damp and there isn't any good hardpan to aim for.

It is a different mindset.   I can see him winning one when the weather lies down.   He talks about not even thinking about the golf ball and only focusing on his body movements.   In links golf with weather, you can't just expect the same results with the same inputs.
Rico, we agree.
