Anybody traveling to/live in the full eclipse path?  My parents came to visit us in Columbia over the weekend, then went to my brother's and his fiance's yesterday in St. Louis, and are now in Mount Vernon, IL to see it before driving back up to Milwaukee.  Hoping I led them the right way, as most of the stuff closest to Missouri was showing partly cloudy.  Mount Vernon showed 46% cloud cover at 1 PM and 11% cloud cover at 2 PM.  They said clear blue skies right now.

We're supposed to get a 94% covered sun this afternoon here in Columbia.

I live in downtown Indianapolis.

Majority of schools are off all day.

Lots of businesses are closed or closed at 12.

Did you offer lodging to wayward scoopers during the first weekend of the tourney?

92% blockage here in Southern Connecticut

My daughter at the University of Vermont gets 100% blockage.  She said they were locking down campus because they were expecting so many people in Burlington to watch.

The overreaction to this, at least in Indy, by news and the state has been dumb.

"Fill up your gas tank. Make sure your fridge is stocked. Get supplies."

Wtf?

We have over 90% as well...and I thought it would be darker than it is. Oh well.

Sad that cancel culture has gotten to the sun

I think you steered them right and they got the full monty.

jesmu84

Okay. That was awesome

94% here.   No clouds.  About as dark as a summer afternoon cloud passing over.

Pretty cool. I couldn't imagine going further than outside my front door to see it though.

Other than several hundred people skipping out of work in downtown MKE, not much to see. It got much darker and cooler in 2017 than it did today.

I'm glad I got the viewing glasses because it looked like a weird shaped bright sun without them.  Glasses allowed the obstruction shape perfectly visible.

lawdog77

Here in the suburbs of Indy. Totality was very nice, in was dark like sunset/dusk, and being able to look at it without those stupid glasses was cool.Oh, and they said to make sure you will up your tank becasue of traffic. 125,000 expected in downtown/Speedway.

Anybody else sit in a Mitsubishi, listening to Bonnie Tyler, chewing mint gum?   Is that how you achieve true zombie?

I flew my Lear Jet to Nova Scotia to see the total eclipse of the sun

Now THAT was an excellent box out by the undersized moon. Give the celestial body a ton of credit here.

StillAWarrior

We had 3+ minutes of clear-skied totality here. Very cool. Seeing the partial obstruction through the glasses is neat, but the totality was much, much cooler.

I was really surprised how "normal" everything looked outside even when just a sliver of the sun was apparent through the glasses. That big ball of fire is pretty impressive how it can illuminate things with even a sliver. Once totality ended -- with the sun almost appearing to burst through the lower left edge of the moon -- it was almost immediately imperceptible without the glasses.

I think that this graph pretty well sums it up:

Never wrestle with a pig.  You both get dirty, and the pig likes it.
