Worked in Detroit metro in an office with a number of grads from Michigan Tech.  They located a diner in the Detroit metro that served pasties.  Youpers got that one right.

Yep. When we were in the U.P. years ago, we learned that the pasties originated as a "lunch box" meal for hard working miners that was complete and could be reheated when they had their dinner break.
